Finishing can be tough...but if you've done your prep correctly, have a good skeleton to hang your meat on (the outline), and enjoy the process, it comes naturally. Just like dying... :whistling: You are SO RIGHT about publishing...and especially networking, which is the key---and the road...

What I hate most about writing? Nothing. Except it's very hard to make a living writing what you want to write... :sad: That's why we must simply enjoy the act...and hope for the best. You can't win if you don't play.

Never did too well with the rope either---that's why my protagonist can do it...a literary compensation mechanism :lol: I'm 6'4" and weigh 250 pounds...gravity has never been my friend :blink: But when I'm writing (and calling the shots in that special world that exists between my ears)...

When everything's working, it's like magic. I'm literally in a different place---seeing the sights, smelling the smells, and listening over the shoulder of my characters as they speak. When it's not working...it's like trying to push a two-by-four through a meat grinder.

Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey/Maturin books are without a doubt my favorite historical series...as a model ship builder (in my very scarce spare time), I find myself easily carried away by his period-perfect prose---to say nothing of the nautical minutiae. Great stuff.

In my opinion, Curtain is a masterpiece. Others have had gripes with it...but it IS the ultimate whodunit.

I'd have to say no. As with music or film artists, I can't restrict my enjoyment of books to only writers with whom I agree politically. Hunter S. Thompson is one of my favorite writers of all time---he was just unhinged---but I agree with very few of his assertions.

I'd recommend The Summer of Katya, by Trevanian...a mystery with a nice tragedy at its core.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service, by Ian Fleming :cool: If the only James Bond you know is from the movies, you're missing out!

Poirot is the only Agatha Christie hero I can read again and again...ironically, my favorites are the first and last Poirot stories, respectively: The Mysterious Affair At Styles, and Curtain.
