Yep, exams in mid-May. Off on holiday tomorrow for a few days' fun first. Then knuckling down.

I recommend it. Not updated it in a couple of months, but then, I've not read anything this last couple of months.

    Self Publishing v/s Traditional Publishing

I don't know why you would think I would want to protect Amazon , they are persona non grata at the moment (link1 | link 2). When it comes to online book buying, I tend to do mine via The Book Depository. Much better. Such is the way of the book buying world. Even Nobel Laureates like Samuel...

    Self Publishing v/s Traditional Publishing

Since you've registered an ISBN for the book, they'll say the book is available, set their price, and source it...if the need ever arises.

    Self Publishing v/s Traditional Publishing

You obviously haven't a clue what you're talking about. I had a look at your book on Amazon and in the US there's one copy going for $71.68 and the UK as a more reasonable £16.75. The German Amazon has it at €50.50, the French at €49.90. What you are missing is that Amazon is not the one setting...

LOST (The Show) and connections in books

You are probably best getting a list of the books that have featured in the show. The glaring one, for me, is The Invention Of Morel by Adolfo Bioy Casares, about a convict who flees to an island which turns out to be occupied by some very strange people.

    Stephen King

I did. One thread per author, whether you can be bothered reading through it or not. Also, if you want to know if anyone has read Heart Shaped Box, why not start a thread on it, rather than polluting other threads? ;)

Cheers, Thomas. I'm on it. Possibly looks as thought there may be a problem with my bank...

You know, if you wanted to get a message to me there were a few ways. One would be to send me a private message via the forum, the other being to email me via the forum. Or, you could click on either of the links in my signature and use whatever contact option is available there. Please to hear...

    A recession or a depression?

Well, a recession is just two quarters or more of slumped GDP. If it's still dropping off a few years down the line, then it's a depression. So, for now, it's just a recession...with mass potential for worse. May be time to dig out those Steinbecks and put some Woody Guthrie on the player.

    Get yourself known

I suppose part of the issue is wondering who on earth thinks, "I need to read a book", and stumbles off to YouTube for ideas?

    Get yourself known

Na, that was a lingering memory from a marketing module back in 1998. :D

    Get yourself known

I think the Stephen King one has a different purpose to the others in that he's a known quantity and that thirty second clip is just letting anyone know who reads him, who doesn't already know, that he's got a new one out. He's a saturated brand that needs only a nod like that to remind people...

    Get yourself known

Having just watched that, I'd be questioning the judgement of that jury. Now, I'm not likely to buy the book anyway, but there ws nothing in there that would make me want to read a book: some clouds, some lightning, some words. Further up in this thread I posted two 'book trailers' and I think...

The need to relate to fictional characters-needed?

It's a book group mentality that seems to want to relate to the characters. Or one, at the very least. What should matter is that the characters are interesting. Nothing more.

    Happy Bithday Stewart!

Thanks everyone. Never received a text, nor a PM. I wanted to go away, so when it became clear that overseas was becoming a logistical problem, I told my friends to come up with somewhere, not to tell me, and I'd find out when I got there. Spent the weekend in Nottingham. Yes, none.

I missed a flight and had a meltdown....

Funnier was the stupid woman in the studio commenting on her reaction being over the top when she caught a flight three hours later. Yes, you dumb woman, she wasn't aware at that point in time she'd get another flight.
