Why doesn't my generation enjoy reading?

Now I've been wondering, is this only a problem with younger generations? Or are the older generations reading less than previously? And how would we measure this? Books sold equals books read or perhaps surveys?

Do You Remember What You Read?

I'm not entirely sure I think getting murdered slowly sounds better. And I do expect a choice and I choose cake.

Do You Remember What You Read?

On the positive side I made sure he had one more sale. So be sure to keep that in mind before you sentence me. Well you're forgetting the obvious advantage. If you forget the book that gave you pleasure to read, then you can get that pleasure again. Getting old is awesome. Good to be back...

Why doesn't my generation enjoy reading?

Quite true and having an entire generation so hooked on those platforms could very well leed to a generation of very shallow people.

Do You Remember What You Read?

A few years back I bought The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay and started reading it. Some chapters in it starts to feel familiar, which I at first just attributed to having read many of his books, but eventually I found out I'd already read it and found the first copy on my...

Why doesn't my generation enjoy reading?

Another solution is to just ignore it and read a book. I'd say you probably do understand some of the attraction, not to Facebook, but to forums. Member for 6 months and 2,475 posts suggests that you do like the social aspect and apply this to a love of reading. I think the hard part is...

Why doesn't my generation enjoy reading?

Just not something that's easy for a teenager and will be seen as a punishment if done by a parent. For those like me who are 30 it's much easier, but you still have to fight that social pressure to always be on.

Why doesn't my generation enjoy reading?

If we talk teenage generation and use my 15 year old nephew as an example, something that's probably very very unwise, then a better question would be when he's supposed to find the time to read. With Facebook, Twitter, texting, emails, snapchat and whatever else social he has got going on and a...

    José Saramago: Blindness

I can't really see it that way. I might go so far as to say that they don't lose their humanity, but they use "the cover of darkness" to act the way they truely want to. So it might not be a matter of losing something, but rather showing who you really are. When no one saw it, it's probably...

    Suggestion: Posts

The only way I see this as a way to judge anyone would be if the post count was followed by sort of scoring system where the percentage of post made about books was calculated and shown. If you simply show the post made in the book sections, the people would not be able to tell how much you post...

    Someone tell me this.

Peder You wouldn't just happen to be saying you are from the US, when you are really a danish wiskey-loving english teacher? That avatar does look like my former english teacher and it would be like him to spy on me to see that I don't abuse the english language.

    realityland revisited

And what do you call that if not a response? I better add that it's not meant in any insulting way. I've just always thought it very strange to say things like that. :)

    Book Length

I don't mind long stories and have never really thought about it when buying books. It all depends on if the author is able to make it interesting. I was used to reading fantasy and the books I read were about 800 pages long each, so when I got my first small book I did feel a bit cheated...

    Leo Tolstoy: Anna Karenina

I don't see Anna as all bad. She finds herself in a situation where all she has is Vronsky, so naturally the thought of losing him would tear her up. Her jealousy is a big flaw and as such the fact that she is willing to leave her son, whom she loves, to be with Vronsky. I saw the story as...

    TBF Moderation

I don't have anything against Wabbit, I have something agaist Wabbit as a moderator. But since Wabbit IS a moderator he should behave accordingly and this does slip for him from time to time, and he calls on the "I'm just a human defence". I don't mind playing peacefully with Wabbit, I simply...
