I know I've said this in another thread, but anything by Nick Hornby absolutely cracks me up. Must be the dry saracasm thing. LOVED High Fidelity.
I also loved "Notes from a small island" by Bill Bryson, anything by Ben Elton, and "The secret diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4" by Sue Townsend.
Hey Guys!
It's a cold, overcast day here in Melbourne, so I'm skipping a meeting for a group assignment at uni to read what you guys have been up to. I also have two assignments overdue by a couple of days...I'm staying blindly optimistic though!!!
Think I might work on uni stuff (or stay...
Another vote for "It" here. Jenn, I'm with you, clowns and balloons FREAK me out. Have you guys seen the Nokia ad where the guy is waiting at the bus stop and they send all the clowns down to cheer him up? If I saw ten clowns running at me through a paddock I would be screamng and running away...
Tim-Tams are chocolate biscuits with a creamy centre.
and here is the infamous Tim-Tam slam:
Ppl overseas, if you can manage to buy any I strongly suggest the slam.
Michigan: I like old RD too. My Dad unloads his onto me, so I have some copies going back to...the mid 80s? Something like that.
When I'm at my bro's place I devour all his Playstation 2 mags. That's about it though.
I must say, that if I had to leave Australia and couldn't have my Vegemite, I might go a little cuh-razy!!I've had friends have it sent over to them whilst holidaying. Ooooh!!!! and pavlova!!!!
Speaking of deep-frying, my flatmates and I tried some Tim-Tams the other night. We nearly wrecked...
Hey! Hope some of these titles won't be too lost on you as I'm an Australian:
Loved
Romeo & Juliet
The Leopard - Giusseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (awesome novel!!)
Angela's Ashes - Frank McCourt
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead - James...
I must say that the best shows I've been to have been outdoor festivals. I've only begun going to these this year, and so far have been to the Falls festival (best time of my life) and the Big Day Out Melbourne show.
Faves? John Butler Trio (transcendence every single time), Missy Higgins...
I suggest anything by Ben Elton if you like your comedy to be politically oriented. He's really the only comedic author I've read though. Try "Stark", or "High Society". There's also some good stuff by Nick Hornby like "High Fidelity" and "About a Boy." Don't be put off by the film version of...
Hi Joshua! Welcome to the forum.
I've only been here a few days, but it's great fun!!! I'm also a huge fan of the Harry Potter series. Can't wait for 'Half-blood Prince'!!
Also looking forward to Hitchiker's, although I was a huge fan of both the book and the tv series, so I hope it lives up to expectations. Apparently Beeblebrox doesn't have two heads though - what's up with that??
I'm sure Martin Freeman will make up for any downsides though - what a star...
A relative of mine reccommended that I read Laymon when she found out I was King fan. I don't remember the name of the novel, it was about a bracelet...that's all I remember!
I don't remember enjoying his style of writing, but I think his story ideas are great. I stated to read Savage, but...
Hey fellow King fans!
I've just started the Dark Tower series (halfway through The Gunslinger). Finding it quite different, as King is my "comfort" author, kind of like a security blanket. Am liking it though.
"It" is also one of my faves. My cousins and I used to watch the film when we...
Hi all
Just reading through the previous posts of this thread and I've found myself a bit amused by some of the strangest habits in reading I have ever heard!
Okay, sure, if you're reading someone else's book (or a library one), treat it with respect. But in terms of respect for an author...
