I re-read all the time, usually at night when I can't get to sleep. It helps to read something I'm familiar with so that it doesn't keep me awake but still distracts me enough from not sleeping.
I too feel guilty for re-reading when I have a TBR pile, but I don't want to half concentrate on a...
I imagine, as has been said already, that these would be okay for those who know nothing about a particular subject and are looking for some general info. A quick check of Amazon brings up some interesting titles:
The Bible for Dummies
Pilates Workout for Dummies :)
and from the site...
Cheeky monkey :)
I usually buy, only because our local library is a bit lacklustre and I'm too impatient for inter-library borrowing. That said, I rarely buy books new. I have a couple of second-hand shops in neighbouring towns that are quite good, and if they don't have what i want there's...
*slaps forehead*
I knew that! I have an illustrated copy of whichever Faraway Tree book she's in with her chasing the children (I think Jo is rubbing his behind, having just been walloped).
She's pretty scary....
I agree. More post-apocalyptic-man's-struggle-with-himself-and-changed-world than your typical vampire novel, but excellent because of what it contributes to vampire theory.
I've just now finished this, and thought it was fantastic. I agree with Martin's review - the indepth look at some of the oldest vampire theories was really interesting, particularly . Gave it a bit more realism, I felt.
I also loved the ending, especially the last couple of lines, where it...
Er, I was thinking more about hiding myself as opposed to vital organs from the authorities...unless my liver has been up to its nefarious nighttime wanderings again. I shall have to have a word with it.
Thanks for the offer, though! :)
That's okay, the favour may come in handy...
"Hey, remember that million dollars you owe me? Well....I need a kidney/lung/brain/place to hide from the authorities".
Excuse me pedant police. I don't think it is particularly neat at all, and takes up excessive space. You, as the instigator of this thread, should be responsible for keeping track of eliminations and letting people know (a few votes missed doesn't matter - it's not a Nobel Prize).
Anyway, I've...
Gah! There will be no slighting of Jimmy Smits here!
No, I did watch that one the other day, and was bemused by the appalling adaptation. I know a lot of people hate Tommyknockers, and I hope their view of the book hasn't been tainted by the film.
I thought Maximum Overdrive was a fine example of both King's directing ability and Estevez's acting ability (both very poor, but displayed wonderfully).
I think Misery is one of the best adaptations, Shawshank is an excellent movie in its own right and does top the short story.
Has anyone...
Here's mine, which I used to recite in year 10. Can't remember where I first heard it:
