Anything by David McCullough is very readable (and Im not one for nonfic)
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson (excellent discussion on this one)
To Kill a Mockingbird (a CLASSIC)
Fahrenheit 451 (another CLASSIC)
Night by Elie Wiesel (short but oh so powerful)
Congrats on starting a...
I dont understand why anyone would pay late fees at the library:confused: I almost never do. Sometimes I might be a day late but who cares! I get email reminders when each of my books are due and have the option of renewing on the library website. Log in, renew and have for 3 more weeks. Whats...
IMO nothing can replace the feel of a book in my hands. I like to see piles of books around the house. IF the Kindle makes more people read then ok BUT if its just the newest gadget for a few people then :p
I think the premise of "5 people" is interesting but I didnt enjoy it or "Tuesday" . I guess MA has found his niche though since people seem to buy his stuff. Def not for me!
Any bookstore is like a candy store to me. Lovely to look at but usually too expensive for something I will read once. The library is my one stop shopping place. I can always find something to read and I have plenty of time to read it, renewals online make it easy to keep as long as I need to...
These are radically different writers. I have read both but for pure horror that can still make you laugh its SK all the way. His stories get tense, then tenser then BOOM, youre in the middle of an unimaginable situation , but his underlying sense of humorous reality is still there. SK is a...
Yes, absolutely Robert Crais! Very enjoyable and better than Spenser. I never could stand all those descriptions of Spensers girlfriends clothing:p Who really cares?
I am a member of the "Lifelong Readers Group" at my local library. Our group meets from Sept through May and its coming up on time to nominate new titles for the next session. We each nominate 2 titles then rank our choices and the top ranked choices are our list for next time. We have approx...
Well put, SilverSeason! Your taste in books evolves over time so what might interest you now will be different in a few years. I follow certain authors and pick up anything that looks interesting. One thing I have leaned, over time (much time!) is that if Im 100 pages in and its boring me....I...
Has anyone read David McCullough? Its history brought to life and much more interesting than your school textbook ever was. So far, I have read 1776 and Mornings on Horseback. Any opinions on his writing?:)
Always a fan of SK, its good to see him active again. I couldnt plow through Lisey but I have recently read Blaze, a Bachman book. When his earliest books came out, I would buy each and every one and devour it! I'll have to read that interview, thanks sfg.
Absolutely! I have little slips of paper everywhere with book titles and authors I would like to try. If one is great I always check for other titles then watch for new stuff:) What disappoints is when a favorite authors newest book is not on the level of the others.
