    What's your favorite movie scene?

How could I forget the coconut scene! I love the knight scene as well. "It's just a flesh wound!" makes me laugh every time.

    Last seen...

I just saw this one recently as well. The friends I was watching it with dispersed about 30 minutes into it because it was "uncomfortable". I stomached it out, but it wasn't very satisfying and left me feeling really horrible. I watched Hard Candy the other day. Wasn't one of my favorites...

    What's your favorite movie scene?

Here are my favorites: In Sideways - when Miles has just received the news about his book and begins his speech of "I'm so insignificant I can't even kill myself". It's so adorable - I can't find another word to describe it. There Will Be Blood - the end scene makes it all worth while...

When looks are more important that content

Personally - like others have mentioned - a bookshelf looks more like it's from a book nerd when it looks messy and eccentric and there are falling apart copies of War and Peace etc. The website I think serves a better purpose for the movies it works with to provide set decoration, not for the...

    Which is the...

This is embarrassing for me to say, but I'm in this book club where we usually pick out works that are of certain literary value...but someone decided to pick Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier - by far the worst book I have read not only this year, but certainly my entire life. It is...

    Clockwork Orange: Movie Vs. Book

I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but whenever I end up seeing a movie version of the book, I have to completely separate it from the novel to enjoy it at all. While I do agree that the rape scenes and the nudity were...a bit much...I have to say I did enjoy the film. Of course, the book...

Saddest/Most Depressing Novel You've Ever Read

I second Things Fall Apart and Flowers for Algernon. I would also recommend The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham. The movie is excellent as well - but of course I would read the book first.

    Foreign vs. domestic films

I'll have to remember that one - I haven't seen any Korean film. But I agree with you on the subtitles/dubbed issue. My family will not budge on only watching dubbed movies - they shy away from foreign film simply because of the subtitles. I feel like dubbing a movie is such a discredit to the...

Movies you watched more than once?

That movie is one of my favorites :) I've seen Reservoir Dogs a couple of times, American Beauty, There Will Be Blood (any PT Anderson movie, actually), and of course Royal Tenenbaums - I've probably seen this 10 times.

    Emily Brontë: Wuthering Heights

Hah! He was actually a pretty good teacher - he said my essay on Wuthering Heights made him appreciate the book more.

    Upcoming Summer Movies

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona. No Woody Allen fans? This one comes out August 15th and is surprisingly going to be shown at my local theater.

Books like Catcher in the Rye

What about just reading other Salinger books? Franny and Zooey for example. If you're looking for a book that is mostly about what's going on in the character's mind, then go for Notes from Underground. It's...similar in certain ways, but it's hard to tell just what you liked about Catcher in...

    Emily Brontë: Wuthering Heights

I have to say I adored the book but the film versions just didn't compare. Wuthering Heights was something I would call...certainly tragic, I think, and the movies never seemed to want to admit that it isn't "romantic" - though I do think it falls under the Romanticism category. I have yet to...

    Foreign vs. domestic films

I completely agree with Le Scaphandre et Le Papillon and Cidade de Deus - these are total favorites in the foreign film department. I've been going on a foreign film binge ever since I joined Netflix and actually had access to them. Here are some of my recommendations: Good Bye, Lenin...

    Death at a Funeral

My personal favorite was Kris Marshall's performance. I loved him in Love Actually and Death at a Funeral was no different :)

    Recently purchased DVDs

Sideways, Hard Candy, Reservoir Dogs, and a double feature of Requiem for a Dream and Pi. We own Reservoir Dogs, but I think it's good enough to buy another to take to college.

    Death at a Funeral

Yes! I was a bit shocked by its abrupt ending, but I found it hilarious all the same - and the ending I think added to that hilarity.

Does Anyone know the title of this book?

Is it Desires and Deceptions by Jasmine Cresswell? The description says it's about Claire Campbell and it includes a deadly fire. I hope that helps :)

Usernames!!!! How did you get yours?

The story of my username is rather boring, but the savvy part I uncreatively copied from Jack Sparrow, and the Ambrose part I looked up on babynames.com. That is an excellent resource for creative usernames, I've found. Ambrose means immortal...and I really can't remember why I chose that name -...
