I just finished this, and looked for a thread, but couldn't find one, so thought I would start one. Has anyone else read this? I would be interested in others views, it was quite odd...
Here's my review from my blog:
Set in Yorkshire, we meet Sam who has been expelled from school for an...
The Twilight series... really not for me...
The Da Vinci Code was a lot of badly written rubbish as far as I was concerned...
And last, but by no means least... Bridget Jones's Diary. I just wanted to give her a slap and tell her to pull herself together!
As you may know I have started to read all of Agatha Christie's crime novels in order... It stalled early on due to work. Why does work get in the way of my reading time? Anyway, I am back on track, and here is my review of the Secret Adversary, her second novel.
Review
I started this book...
I agree about the ending, I was sad too. Did you feel slightly shaken by it too? I think the rest of the book had lulled me into a nice sense of nothing was really happening, and the suddenly we had the "big reveal".
I almost feel I might enjoy it even more if I read it again, now knowing...
Thanks for all the lovely comments! The glass doors on the front are great aren't they? They really keep the dust out.
I'd like to be able to say that the bookcases were handmade by a master craftsman, descended from a long line of expert cabinet makers, located in the depths of the English...
Has anyone else read this? I was both wowed and slightly confused by it!
I have been trying to liken this book to something else I have read, but have failed. The book is narrated by a gecko living on the living room ceiling of an albino man, Felix, in Angola. Through the lizards witty...
This is not normally my kind of book, but I was feeling rather out of sorts when I saw this and it had a pretty cover, and I lost my senses and bought it. I was very surprised when I started to read. In some ways it's traditional chick lit fare. Phoebe Swift has opened her own vintage dress shop...
I don't think she would go for that. I am not sure what the rules are with this forum provider, but many forum providers state that the content that is posted belongs to them. I hadn't realised that until my friend told me, and when I checked the small print for the provider for my robotics...
I read Agatha Christie when I was young too, and it became rather an obsession for me. I think it is the total Englishness of it all. I grew up in a small English village, much like St Mary Mead, although there were far few deaths!
I have the same trouble in the book chains here, companies such as Waterstones rarely have good people who can help you find a book you are after.
I only really shop in one place now for my books. The shop is about 100 miles from my home, and a I go a couple of times a year and by 10+ books...
Can't find it at the moment. I will need to buy an e-book to see what it says. Oh dear what a shame ;-)
I am willing to make this major sacrifice for the good of the community. :D
