I was ambling around by bookshelves and found my copy of A Summer In The South By James Marshall.
It's a children's whodunnit, and has the traditional detective and sidekick along with a cast of dodgy characters, any of whom could be up to no good for a variety of reasons. I adored this book...
I've read:
The trouble with physics (made my brain turn inside out)
The Dark Is Rising (read this when I was a kid, and was the first book I read under the duvet with a torch I was so desperate to finish it)
Good list isn't it. Now I have some more books to add to my wish list
I once read a book with such a terrible ending I nearly took it back to the shop in disgust. It was a good whodunnit with lots of possible murderers. The victim was drowned. I read through the whole book to discover she wasn't murdered at all, but it was an accident. Why, I ask, was that in the...
I haven't read about the Kindle, but just did a quick Google and see that it has web access which is why I guess Amazon could remotely delete the books. Thats pretty terrible behaviour.
I still stand by my Sony E-reader, though. I think there is room for both E-books and traditional books.
Am I too new to suggest a book? If not, I'd like to suggest The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao By Junot Diaz.
From Amazon:
Things have never been easy for Oscar. A ghetto nerd living with his Dominican family in New Jersey, he's sweet but disastrously overweight. He dreams of becoming the...
Just for future reference, do you prefer begging on hands and knees, or the full, led flat, face down on the floor?
Also, dark, milk or white chocolate?
I understand the apprehension. I was a bit dubious to start with too, but when I saw one I realised it isn't a threat to paper books, just a different option. Both paper and digital work for me and so I use them both. :D
Do you know, if you hadn't said that it was a Dutch forum, I might have thought that I had seen the same one! There is something about forums... in the wrong hands they end up being a really nasty place to be.
I'm new here too, and haven't yet disclosed my views on Dan Brown. I am however...
I noticed you are a chemical engineer! Me too! I also see you like Terry Pratchett, he's one of my favourites too. Do you have a favourite of his books?
I adore Wind In The Willows. At school we had a beautiful illustrated edition and nobody was allowed to touch it. I can remember looking longingly at it until a teacher rewarded me for good behaviour by allowing me to hold it and read a few pages aloud!
We live close to where Kenneth Graham...
I have a Sony E-Reader and I love it!
I don't read exclusively on it, I read paper books too. I like it for multiple reasons. Firstly I travel a lot and it's easier to carry around. Secondly I have dodgy arms, so holding a paper book for a long time can be problematic as my arms are weak, and...
Hello!
I'm brand new here, and hope to get to know everyone so we can have a nice natter about books. :flowers:
I will have a go at reading pretty much everything, and once even read some of the dictionary as there was nothing else to hand...
I have a book blog where I post...
