    British humor in books

Of course my library doesn't carry that book. *sigh* If anyone has got more recommendations along these lines, you know what to do. ;)

    Adaptations

Adaptations have been discussed at great length over at the Film and TV forum already, but mangagirrrl raised an interesting point in another thread here at Comics and Graphic Novels. I know Lord of the Rings was adapted, as well as some of E.A. Poe's and H.P. Lovecraft's stuff. I've only read...

What are you listening to Right now?

An Pierlé - Are Friends Electric? I love that woman.

    The "Currently Reading:" thingamefoo

Could the amount of characters one can type into the box perhaps be limited? Some people type more than just the name and author of the books they're reading, which kind of screws up the layout and makes you scroll horizontally if you want to read their posts.

Suggestions: August book of the month

I myself don't really see the need for a Book of the Month (let alone two!) on a book forum, especially since you're more than free to start threads on specific authors and books yourself, if and when you feel like discussing them. People that want to reply, will reply, whether the book is a...

    The new Nick Hornby, anyone?

Yes, a British one with Colin Firth. They did a Hollywoodian remake too, with Drew Barrymore.

    The new Nick Hornby, anyone?

I've seen the movie, which was more than enough for me. ;)

    The new Nick Hornby, anyone?

A Long Way Down? I've only read How to Be Good myself and I didn't like it. Does anyone know if I'll hate his other books too?

    Last seen...

I watched The Sum of All Fears yesterday. I didn't really want to see it, but it ended up having at least one redeeming feature: they tried very hard to let the actors speak different languages, and not just English with different accents. The fact that they at least tried is admirable, but it...

    Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Which is enough reason for me not to go see it.

Which Perspective Do You Prefer, 1st Person or 3rd?

I agree with Wabbit, though I do have a small preference for third person narratives. Somehow I got it into my head that first person narratives are easier to write.

Have you ever take inventory of how many books you ever read

I started my list back in 1997 and I keep kicking myself for not starting one earlier. I can't remember any of the titles of the books I read as a kid, and I want to go back and read them again. I haven't read that many, by the way. 343 books in eight years just isn't much.

    Books set in China/Japan?

I read a book called "Deception", by Eleanor Cooney and Daniel Altieri once. I think they wrote other books about China together too.

    RSS feeds

Hmm. I like feeds for news and stuff, but this forum gets hundreds of posts every day, so wouldn't that get a bit much?

    Name pronunciation (split from Avatars)

Yay! Maybe I should put that in my signature. Lies a dear, a female dear?

    Name pronunciation (split from Avatars)

Really? My father is the only good male liar I've ever met, whereas I know plenty of girls that could make you believe anything. I can live with that. ;)

    anyone in to asian films?

Did anyone like Hero? I can get it for free this month, but if it's so bad, I might as well go for Being There (with Peter Sellers).

    Name pronunciation (split from Avatars)

Hmm... I wonder what is so masculin about me.
