Well, it is Dumas, after all - there has to be an antagonist. I see how you could understand Mordaunt's plight(I can just see someone writing a book: Mordaunt: the other side of the story), but he's just playing the function of an antagonist, a sort of diabolical one.
p.s. the man in the iron...
Hi all,
I've decided to read the complete tales of the thousand and one nights - or as complete as they can be, considering it was just stories collected and then translated. I'm looking for a good complete version of the Burton translation. Can anyone recommend one to me? (i.e. publisher...
i've been reading random french stuff, not much of series. but lemme think...i just finished cybermancy, which is the second in a series by kelly mccullough.; other than that, the last series was probably harry potter, i finished #7 in july.
It sounds like it's pretty much the same book. It's a copy they made just before publishing to see what it'd look like, but there shouldn't be any glaring differences.
lol. Gone with the Wind is certainly a long read, I know what you mean. I read it in a few days only because I was on vacation. I completely understand not having this kind of time, having just realized that I haven't finished a single book in December. Vacation's coming up though, time to catch...
Sometimes when I'm reading non stop I just get that feeling that you get after staring at a computer for too long - you face and brain feel like a stone. But that happens when the story is really interesting, and therefore I"ve been reading for a really long time. My remedy is to take a walk and...
From what I know, it depends on which uncorrected proof it is - there are some early uncorrected proofs, and ones that look like the published novel but say "uncorrected proof". The early ones may be different, but the ones that look like the published ones are usually pretty much the same...
Adele Mighton -
I'm not sure how common it was to translate works in his time and put your name on it, but what Dumas did was either a)translate works and put his name on it or b)read a story and then rewrite it. For example, he wrote his own version of Hamlet. He also did a lot of research...
I simply don't have a boyfriend...sometimes I think my qualifications are too high, because I want someone who reads and is intelligent. It's not like I say no to people, but I just don't like anyone because I haven't really met anyone who actually reads books and is intelligent and all those...
Recently, I've been watching a lot of movies with Erroly Flynn - pirate movies. And then I saw The Pirate's Daughter at Borders, which is sort of about Errol Flynn. Have any of you read it, and what are your recommendations? Should I bother?
Thanks in advance!
I've realized that lately, I've been averaging from 4-10 books a month, although most of last year, I've averaged about 12. It's terrible!
So, November 2007 reads
Le Cid - Corneille
Snakehead - Anthony Horowitz
Memoirs of D'artagnan - Sandras
The Three Dumas - Maurois
Since the books I want are usually hard to find and rarely on amazon, I made a different list. However, the items on it are still all books:
http://wishlistr.com/artemisfowlIII
it's the first time I used any kind of wishlist site. But it keeps my wants organized.
definately!
another one that just happened:
you can't find ANYTHING on your favorites list because it's so crammed with links to pages that sell books you want. So you can't even find the book you're looking for that you want NOW although you'll want a different one tommorow.
I really should get an Amazon wishlist and make it a list of all the books I want to read/buy and the movies based on the books. It would be 30 pages long and I'd want everything on it, but instead I'd be asking for French books not available on amazon.com
Here's a couple more to add
-you find yourself giving lectures on the books you read and your friends tell you you sound like an english teacher at 16.
-when you can't sleep, you get up and look at your books
-the only part of the NY times you read is the book review, which you criticize...
I can also totally relate to soo many things here...except for reading ingredients. I only do that when i'm very, very bored.
And I know this will sound slightly crazy coming from a teenager, but when I'm bored on the computer or have to do research for school, I get sidetracked reading about...
