FIRST FANTASY: The Magician's Nephew, C. S. Lewis. Good, for a kid's book.
FIRST SCI-FI: One of the Star Wars books, some Young Jedi Knights series. Good for a kid's book, not very enjoyable for anyone over 13 really. CLICHES.
FIRST HORROR: Some Sweet Valley Twins 'horror' book. I stumbled...
Welcome c-jay, this is my first forum too! In response to the question though, I gotta say, as a teenager, I've been thinking that there's a better bunch of books in the adults section. Maybe they should switch them around so that both age groups may easier locate books they enjoy? Haha just one...
I haven't said anything about my experience regarding titles yet. So here it is: I usually can't think of a good story until part way through it, when I have a better idea of where the story's going. I have so many unfinished stories which I think I might come back to someday, I categorize my...
I think killing off characters is necessary to keep a book realistic, in some situations, and can be a good plot twist too. In a violent war series, for example, you can't avoid it and it just wrecks your writing if you do.
That said I personally, as a young unpublished writer, haven't ever...
In this car crash dream I had I didn't actually die. It was just like the last few seconds before an inevitable collision -- I could hear the beginning of the noise of the crash at the last moment, I think -- and after the dream ended I could have either died or survived with injuries. I'll...
Sometimes when I'm watching TV, when I'm reading a book, when I'm out in the city, when I'm meeting someone new, when I'm doing something for the first time or I see something new, I get this strange feeling of familiarity, that I've seen or done this before, even though I figure out later that...
If I read something by an author and really like it, my first reaction is to read more by that author! After all, if you don't like it, you don't have to let it waste your time, you can just stop reading it!
Plenty of authors don't have just 1 very best book, but a few. And the books aren't all the same, they all have different messages. Surely you can't say a great author is limited to writing only 1 book worth reading!
I love anime but I haven't seen much of it apart from the full first series of Love Hina. I love anime for many reasons - the humour is very original compared to American shows, the art is beautiful, and they pay a lot of attention to plot and characterisation.
Hey, does anyone here believe that dreams are foretellings of the future, or that they have meanings and significance? Personally, I don't. I think they just come from thoughts and memories and the unconscious mind.
Ooh, on the topic, I once dreamed that I died. In a car crash. It was really scary and felt really real and the last few seconds seemed to go in slow motion, and my mind went into all the real stuff: 'Oh my gosh this is the end, why does it have to end now?' and I instinctively started to turn...
I've heard people say they have practically full control over their dream, like anything can happen if they want it to. I wish I could do that, it'd be so cool! Although I do wonder, are they consciously making things happen in the dream, or is the dream just giving them the feeling that they...
Just curious...
When you write, do you think of a title very easily or does it take forever? Or do you just not bother until it's completely finished, or leave your writing untitled? What methods do you use to brainstorm titles? What do you think makes a good/bad title? Do you think titles...
I've read the whole Tomorrow Series and While I Live, Checkers, So Much To Tell You, Take My Word For It, Letters from the Inside, The Journey, Everything I Know About Writing, Marsden on Marsden, that's probably not all but my mind's a little slow today. I really enjoyed them. Anyway, has...
I usually continue where I left or go back a chapter or two if I feel the need to refresh my memory. If it's been a long time, a few weeks or longer, I'll start over.
