del Toro - to direct The Hobbit?
That will make for an interesting and dark take on it. From what I've seen of Del Toro's films The Hobbit would be too light and lacking edge. As I say will be interesting.
I've only read Kafka on the Shore and Borthday Stories (which weren't written butselected by him) so take this wit a bucket of salt.
I don't think he's a US writer, KotS seemed too grounded in Japan. The details were wonderfully vivd the awareness of culture was strong and the novel had a...
Has anyone read the new biography of him by Peter Ackroyd - Poe: A Life Cut Short?
It's still in hardback and wondering whether I'd be jumping the gun - any reviews rave or other wise to consider?
I've not read any Russian auhors for a while, and I've read the Gogol ones listed so I'll throw my weight behind Dreams Of My Russian Summers, Andreï Makine, and proclaim my ignaorance by stating that I've never heard of the book or the author but the reviews and synopsis look good.

I missed it unfortunately but was intrigued by the original comment about the other books being made into films as well.
Is this the 44 Scotland Street - "series" of books by him? (of which I must confess I've only read the first one).
November - seems like ages ago.
managed three I think ....
Eragon - Chistopher Paolini
Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
Lean Six Sigma: Combining Six Sigma Quality with Lean Production Speed - Michael George
I'll weigh in here as I've just finished Kafka on the shore ....
Take the Oedipus story, mix in a murder mystery a whole lot of Japanese myths and apply to a modern setting and you have "Kafka on the Shore".
The story traces the life of two seemingly unconnected characters as they follow...

I've seen a trailer for it now. Looks like it's out in the UK in December, just in time for Christmas. The trailer looked good but having just read the book I think I'll wait till it's on sky or TV.
