    Alice Hoffman

I have The Ice Queen in my TBR stack. It will be the first of her books I've read. Has anyone read this one? How does it rate compared to the others she's written?

Favorite TV show of all time

I would have to go with my top 3: Alias Arrested Development Buffy the Vampire Slayer I agree that Firefly could have been great. I hope Whedon is given the opportunity to develop another series in the near future.

Yes, The Watchman is being billed as "A Joe Pike Novel", so I can't wait to find out what the plot is going to be. I couldn't find anything online yet.

Can you recommend a British detective

I like the Tom Thorne series by Mark Billingham, which begins with "Sleepyhead".

    Off To Greece

Wow, you take great pictures, Libre! So much blue, both sea and sky. It looks really beautiful there, I hope I can visit someday myself. You both appear so relaxed and happy. The ruins look amazing -- I doubt they would have been able to drag me away at the end of the day. What was your...

    August Reads

Vanishing Acts, Jodi Picoult - I thought Lisa Tucker's "Once Upon a Day" covered the same ground, but better. It's too bad I read Tucker's first. The Night Gardener, George Pelecanos - I keep wanting to love this author. This mystery was good, but not great. Goodbye Lemon, Adam Davies -...

Do you have a favorite painter?

There are several in the collection of the Cincinnati Art Museum, of course. You can search the museum’s collection at the web site: http://www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org I can't find any mentioned in the other Ohio art museums. I managed to see “The Mother” displayed in our museum during a P&G...

Do you have a favorite painter?

How about local artists? Elizabeth Nourse was born and got her start in Cincinnati and I love her work. This is one of her paintings. “La mere” (The Mother), 1888 - Elizabeth Nourse

Can someone recommend some good Thrillers for me?

 Lee Child never wrote anything called 'The Codex'. Are you thinking of another author, or another book? I would recommend Caught Stealing by Charlie Huston. More info and excerpts available here: Charlie Huston

Happy Birthday, AquaBlue, and welcome to what I'm sure will be the best decade of your life! (I speak from experience, here.) And don't forget to put a scoop of vanilla ice cream next to that cake.

A book forum I've been on forever is Glyphs Reader's Paradise Forum. Much smaller than the others listed, but it stays active and has lots of friendly people. Glyphs Reader's Paradise Forum

    Any Suggestions?

Have you read anything by Jasper Fforde? I'm currently enjoying the first of his Nursery Crime books, The Big Over Easy. In this one, Jack Spratt investigates the murder of Humpty Dumpty. Very witty and an easy read, and much less complicated then the Tuesday Next series. I'd forgotten how...

Do you have a favorite painter?

Unfortunately, no. I've not ever been able to find a reproduction in any form. If I recall correctly, he had a number of paintings featuring gypsies. If I can ever get my hands on the image, I'll post it. Henri also taught art at the New York School of Art, and Edward Hopper was one of his...

Do you have a favorite painter?

Gem, I think I’m drawn toward artists that see and attempt to recreate the beauty in the everyday. This is certainly true of why I like Wyeth. And I appreciate his style. Whenever I see a person in a painting by Robert Henri, it makes me want to know more about them. There’s one in the...

    Quick Harlan Coben question!

Just in case you're still feeling lazy, the first Myron Bolitar book is titled Deal Breaker. The sequence of titles for the rest of the series can be found on Harlan Coben's web site at: http://www.harlancoben.com/static/novels/.

What New Book Would Make A Great Movie?

I would recommend The Stolen Child by Keith Donahue, if you can afford the special effects. It's the story of a boy named Henry Day, who one day hides in the hollow of a tree where he is taken by changelings (a pack of wild-child fairy sprites) and is made one of their own. Stuck forever as a...
