    Bad song lyrics.

Awww nobody can look at that granny getting down and not laugh... I nominate Nick Lowe's "Marie Provost"..."She was a winner, who became her doggies dinner". Based on an actual silent screen actress who was snacked on by her dachshund. It's actually quite a bouncy tune.

Rebecca Skloot: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

I hope they did, in part of the book the author takes Henrietta's family members in for a chance to look at the cells in a microscope...can you imagine seeing cells of a family member like fifty years after the fact? Not to mention how much money must have been made off of them. Race is...

    Recently Purchased/Borrowed

I'm almost embarrassed by how many books are on wish lists between Barnes and Noble and GoodReads. Next order- Power, Passion and Beauty-Walter Kolosky Gus Grissom-Ray E. Boomhower Looked up an oldie Reflections of a Rock Star by Ian Hunter, I bought it for perhaps $5.99 when it was in print...

Rebecca Skloot: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

I don't know if there's another discussion of this book but I found it remarkable. I picked it up by chance from the used book rack. It had been prominently displayed in the bookstores when it came out. It was also on the high school required reading list. I was curious to understand the...

    You now feel really old

A bit off track here...I'm still an old fart and I'm proud...but really, Iscanned through a book at work today. I remember distinctly buying it at a small town bookshop. There was an author signing for this private press book and I felt sorry for the author. Such dreck...first off he runs a...

1001 books you must read before you die.

Same problem, I haven't heard of many of these authors. I've read exactly nine. It's a matter of opinion as well...I feel "The Fire Next Time" is a more significant book than "Go Tell It on the Mountain".

    Autobiographies

So many bio's and autobio's I could go for pages and pages. It's interesting to read a good autobiography then branch into reading books about people or situations mentioned. The first that come to mind- Life by Keith Richards Keef lived a very...ahem...full...life, unlike the Clapton book...

Anyone Else Enjoy Travel Memoirs and Culture Studies?

Wondered how many other armchair travelers are out there. First names that come to mind Bill Bryson and Jon Krakauer. I also have collected at least twenty titles in the series Culture Shock...for those unfamiliar they are country by country moving-in guide. I find it fascinating to compare the...

What superhero power would you most like?

    You now feel really old

There was a humorist back in the day-Erma Bombeck. She wrote a story about a mature woman in that same situation. The character is first put off by the child interviewer...then she thinks " I rocked you and powdered your bottom and now you're asking ME about my qualifications?! Let me tell you...

    Stephen King

I recently picked up a copy of Carrie, backstory is that when I was in jr high the first movie came out...I went with my sister and her friends...the tombstone scene at the end made the whole theater scream. Carrie was the misfit hero to all of us who wanted revenge. The book is a bit oddly...

    Let's see your work area

I AM SO jealous of the above conversation...held back from the masters because of 3rd grade math ability and writing as a career, unfortunately the taxes still need to be paid. Graduated with honors in English and...work in a big box hardware store, ready to begin in a big box liquor store as...

    Construction of your personal library?

I have books like that of my Mum's, cat fiction, that has to be a genre. I've had them at least thirty years and maybe glanced at them...but those I will always have.

    Gay marriage

And might I add "written down" is more human interpretation...the bible, the Torah, the Quran...so many things have been read into these books...the bible doesn't word for word condemn homosexuality, the Quran absolutely does not endorse terrorism...it's interpretation and it is sad.

    Construction of your personal library?

It was excellent timing actually...book sale coming up at one of the biggest libraries in the area...counting the days

    Do you have a tattoo...

True you do have to have them touched up maybe every twenty years or so, the color does tend to fade over time. But by the time one is old and wrinkly, having old wrinkly tats is the least of your concerns;)

    Construction of your personal library?

Now then I have been improving in this department...before the wife up and shoots me. I added some bookshelves to the hall. In the midst of the clearing the old shelves I realized there were many books just gathering dust. I began going unit by unit...maybe eight individual shelving areas all...

    You now feel really old

The disturbing realization that the covering doctor who just walked in the room, the police officer out there diverting traffic, the brand new district manager that you have to report to... ...are all younger than your children:eek: This is not confidence inspiring

    What scares you the most...

Centipedes, Palmetto bugs...nice name for big ass roaches from when we lived in Florida...come to think of it they had mutant spiders too. Regular spiders are okay, they eat bugs...if'n they aren't crawling on me I'll leave them be. Biggest fear is being an elderly homeless drunk...covered...

What Made You Happy Today, What Made You Miserable?

Can you get him back n' demand he fix it? Happy was wasting time online and being entertained by Banksy rat images. My daughter has them as pets. I don't see vermin, very bright creatures actually. Miserable is back to work this afternoon, happy is having work to go to
