    Steven Brust

I definitely like his writing. Vlad Taltos is a fun character and the books have sarcasm and wit aplenty. Plus his books are a quick read and they are self-contained, not a long, drawn-out series.

    Books with humor

I agree. The series is dramatic and intense as all Hell, but it has its share of yucks along the way.

George R. R. Martin: A Song Of Ice And Fire

Man, I just re-read A Game of Thrones and I did not notice. That Gregor is a real piece of work though, eh? I'll see if I can catch the description of Sandor's disfigured face next time I read one of the books.

    A new type of fantasy

Greetings Feastforcrows! I, too am a huge fan of GRRM's A Song of Ice and Fire. I just re-read A Game of Thrones (best-book-ever). I highly recommend author John Marco. He has 2 trilogies: Tyrants and Kings (The Jackal of Nar, The Grand Design, The Saints of the Sword) and another Trilogy...

    James Rollins

I've only read Excavation and Subterranean (so far) and they were enjoyable brain candy. My wife read Amazonia and liked it. I have read all the Fantasy novels by Rollins' alter ego James Clemens and he ranks as one of my favorites. I've been told that his writing has improved dramatically...

    planet X

Chiming in kind of late, here, I know. Has anyone ever read the 12th Planet by Zecharia Sitchin? I just kind of briefly scanned the posts in this topic and I didn't see any mention of it ( I did see something about Sumerians, though). This was a fascinating book, whether you take it at face...

George R. R. Martin: A Song Of Ice And Fire

I just got back from a week's vacation where I read 3 paperbacks that I bought a while ago and have been sitting around collecting dust - Sleeper by Steven Harriman (horror), the 2nd Drenai book by David Gemmell and the 2nd Tiger & Del book by Jennifer Roberson (which were all enjoyable btw)...

What superhero power would you most like?

It would have to be super-strength or invulnerability. Of course I'd want both, but I wouldn't want to turn green or be covered with an orangy, rock-like hide! Why? So I could beat the crap out of bad guys :D

    August-Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book Nominations

Darn good question. I looked it up, it appears that you have to start a new thread in order to create a poll. Creating a new poll When you post a new thread, you may have the option to also create a poll. This function allows you to ask a question and specify a number of possible...

    New Night Stalker!

Wow, there's some memories! I used to babysit some neighbor's kids when I was @12 years old and watch this show, it was on Friday nights at 10:00. I was scared out of my briefs

    I Need A Book

I have a son your age who also enjoys Garth Nix and Phillip Pulman. He just read Magyk by Angie Sage and liked it. We read the first 3 Cirque du Freak books by Darren Shan and really enjoyed them as well.

My 13-year-old son just finished reading The Subtle Knife and wrote a Book Report about it. He of course read The Golden Compass already.
