Generally cover art does not sway me. I certainly appreciate an interesting cover, but I have never...
Started in 1997 and graduated in 2001. I live in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. I've lived a lot of different places in Virginia, but never out of state. My husband and I finally bought a house and settled down.
I will do my best not to hold the wahoo thing against you ;)
Chewbecca was my nickname in college (shortened to Chewie after a while) and I went to Virginia Tech (hence the VT). The ChE is written because I am a chemical engineer, or at least was in my previous career. I've been using some form of this screen name since the late 90's on ICQ and the like.
The Body in the Ivy and The Body in the Kelp - both by Katherine Hall Page
Also got a few books as gifts...hope to be done with Christmas/birthday shopping within the next 2-3 weeks.
My DH and I recently moved into a new house and have dedicated a room as a library. It has several shelves - all overflowing - and piles of books on the floor. I do try to organize them, at least by putting books by the same author together. And I have my bookshelf of favorites. My...
I agree that it is probably too many hands in the pot - the US covers often look over-done compared to their UK counterparts. My husband works in advertising and often sees clients muck up the designs of the graphic designers ("Can you make my logo bigger?") because they just don't get it. The...
I thought it was interesting - but not funny enough to read another Sedaris. I found the jumping around to be disconcerting and I did not find the drug chapters to be amusing - just disturbing (I did grow up with a substance abuse counselor, so my views are skewed). I only laughed out loud a...
Good choice.
Purchased last night:
Life with Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse
The Most of P.G. Wodehouse (a few Jeeves stories in common with the above, but it also includes stories from his other series)
Gunpower Plot by Carola Dunn
Crooked House by Agatha Cristie
I know the reasons for the strike (my husband writes commercials, and keeps up with things like that).
My TV viewing habits won't really change, since I don't often watch it. I do watch football - but the game won't be changed by lack of writers, and my husband and I sometimes watch COPS...
My dad reads like that...a habit I've picked up now that I am older.
I rarely lend out books...I'm still waiting to get one back from a fellow teacher (I was put in a spot and kind of had to lend it). I do lend books to my dad fairly frequently, as we have similar tastes and I know he'll treat...
Richard Peck is another good author. I absolutely LOVE A Long Way from Chicago and laughed many times out loud at the interesting situations that the grandma found herself in with her grandkids. His other books are entertaining, as well.
I finished this book last night and absolutely couldn't put it down. It is a mystery set in Victorian England, but has a high-tech twist. The story starts with Eddie, who is a street-urchin, who steals wallets. When he steals the wallet of George Archer, he gets himself mixed up in a mystery...
Anne McCaffrey's Dragonflight. I was in elementary school and had been given books to read by my parents (my mother kept giving me classics). I was so excited to realize that there were other kinds of books out there - and books way more interesting than what my mother had been giving me to...
