Laurah, I've heard of that book. I'm interested, but I was wondering if you thought it might seem a bit offensive to Christians. Just curious. I might just pick it up, now that I've seen someone who actually recommends it.
Adding a new one: The Great Train Robbery by Michael Crichton.
Everyone has heard of, and probably read, Jurassic Park, and his other sci-fi novels. They aren't bad, but The Great Train Robbery is by far my favorite work of Crichton's. He has taken the testimony from the trials of the...
Do you name your car? Yes
if so what? Rosalind (after Rosalind Franklin)
Driving
Do you always wear your seatbelt? YES!
Do you drive in the left lane? Typically stick to the right unless I'm passing someone.
Do you wash your windshield when you fill up? No. Typically my DH...
I agree with Martin. I don't see how its hurting anything, and it does get some interest. I just prefer to read what I want to read..especially with such limited time.
I find that I'm way more willing to branch out and try new authors now than I was in high school and before. I usually stuck with trusted authors/series and read them through without considering something new. This forum, as well as a few others, have been a huge encouragement to read new...
Maybe a film section in general chat? That way the threads wouldn't get lost as easily as they do in the regular general chat, but it keeps the rest of the forum devoted to books in some fashion.
He used testimony from the trials of the robbers, and pieced together what happened with that testimony. I'm sure he had to beef up a part here or there, but yes, it is true. That makes it even more fascinating.
Raven, sorry, I haven't checked that account in a month or two. I already have...
Hey guys, its great to be back after an extended absense. I took a break from the internet this summer and the first half of this semester, as I was moving and working a new job and starting grad school. I haven't had nearly as much time to read this semester as I would like (working parttime...
Like Michigan, I reread books because I enjoy them. I don't reread many, but there are a few old favorites that I pick up when I need a trusted friend. I know the characters, the setting, everything...sometimes its just as refreshing to turn to the known as to the unknown.
I've recently had to check out piles of books from all the libraries around town (the public library, the university library, and the children's library)....I didn't have any books with stains on them. I was worried about potential stains, but thankfully there were none to be had to spark my...
I find this is true for me, as well. I've even stopped reading a book for a day or two in the middle to consider what I have read so far. Its been interesting this semester because I have so little time to read (I have even gone through a day here and there without reading at all, which is...
Thanks, Clouds&Stars! I've been admiring these guys, and thinking how they probably stay in quite well (do they stay in well?).
I just had to buy a new bookmark, because the one I had does work for the size of books I've been reading lately....its too heavy for paperbacks that have floppy...
Sherlock Holmes? It might appeal to his cynical side...I started reading these at about the age that I became a cynic.
One of Terry Pratchett's YA novels might also be good.
Definitely find something that appeals to his interest, or he'll never find the love of reading.
