Alright, alright - we can tell by your name that you're a bit of a fan. But a lot of us have a completely different opinion of this series. I'm with those folk above who enjoyed the first few, but now have abandoned the series. Allow for the fact that people will always have a different opinion...
I wouldn't say it's a generational thing. I have been online since I was quite young, but I wouldn't contemplate owning ebooks. I just couldn't do without the feel of an actual proper book in my hand. The owning is as much a pleasure as the reading.
I keep three lists:
Books that I own
Books that I have read
Books that I own but haven't read (so a to read list that only encompasses my collection).
I'm so glad I found this site :) . All of my friends think I'm oh so sad for keeping a list.
I am now currently reading pulp fantasy in the form of White Wolf by David Gemmell, which is very good so far.
I've just finished I, Lucifer and thought it was a cracking read, with some absolutely fantastic prose.
I've read 44 of the first hundred, which surprised me.
And 27 of the second hundred, which I hadn't seen before today. IMO, some of them should have featured in the top 100.
I have fond memories of the Chalet school series :)
Although my local library at the time was quite small and didn't stock even half of them, so I would recycle constantly through the ones I could find. I'd love to have read the whole series!
I speed read and can get through 7 or 8 books in an average month.
However, I also really enjoy re-reading books and tend to tackle them slower the second time round. It means I get the joy of discovery about a book twice - once, the fact that it actually exists and the essence of the story...
You could try 'The Last Dragonlord' by Joanne Bertin, and then 'Dragon and Phoenix'.
Also, James Clemens wit'ch series features a prominent dragon who is written well.
Katharine Kerr has a dragon in her second Deverry series, that starts with A Time in Exile.
I read a Widow for one Year and I wasn't hugely struck on it, so I'm happy to see that other folks rate that one lower down. Consequently, I think I'll have to try another of his books - just to see if it's any better for me.
Currently reading 'The Pursuit of Happiness' by Douglas Kennedy.
I'm only a little way in, but already the characters are lively and make me want to read more.
I went to the Carnegie Awards for kids books when I was at school, so met Jenny Nimmo and Jacqueline Wilson. Both were lovely, lovely people and advised me about story writing - best tip they could give was to just persevere with the writing!
I've exchanged emails with Freya North as well...
Hi all,
Not sure if this one is for here or the sci fi forum, but....
What are people's thoughts on Sara Douglass? I have a few books of hers to read and I'd like people who have read her to give an indication of what I can expect. All I know is that her website is pretty good and gives...
