    Anything good going on?

The Aussies voluntarily decided to go in because of bad light - that to me is great news :p

    Crushes on fictional characters

So many :o I concur with Jamie Fraser. And whoever mentioned Silk from the Eddings novels - you have good taste, girl! My current crush is Henry (Hal) Courtenay from the Wilbur Smith books. So manly!

Voting: October 2005 Book of the Month

I've voted for The Eyre Affair, but being as I won't get my way, I'll happily discuss The Shadow of the Wind, being as I read it recently.

Please suggest fiction books about kiddnappings/abductions

Stolen by Kelley Armstrong. (Bitten is the first novel, and should be read first, but Stolen is the one with the themes you specifically refer to).

The Black Magician Trilogy - Trudi Canavan

Well, you don't have *too* long to wait until Trudi Canavan's next book and it starts a brand new series! Titled Priestess of the White, it is the first book in the Age of the Five series and is published by Orbit in the UK February 2006. Looking forward to that one!

Large book chains vs. small indep.stores-which do you prefer?

I never feel guilty about where I buy my books. I frequent big chain bookstores or charity shops principally for my book buying. I go to the big chains when I want to browse or to buy something specific. I go to the charity shops when I need six or seven books for a holiday, or when I want to...

    Laurell K. Hamilton

As the poster above states, Laurell K is both an entertaining author but also one who has introduced more and more trash to both series of novels - the Anita Blake books and the Merry Gentry books (of which A Kiss of Shadows is the first). If you quite like the thought of a strong central...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Discussion *Spoiler Alert*

JK Rowling said on her official site that she planned to take a number of months off to spend time with her children. I don't anticipate her even putting pen to paper until well into the new year. And if she gets writers' block again, that could push everything back.

    Do you remember...?

I loved the Dreamstone! I didn't think anyone else even watched it! And I was definitely a My Little Pony girl... Also, Thundercats anyone? And Dungeons & Dragons, the cartoon. Both fab.

    Edward Rutherfurd

I read London by him and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have The Forest and Dublin in my to-read list.

    Favourite Fantasy Worlds

Westeros would also be mine right now. Rich and detailed and grim and bleak - just fantastically drawn.

    Fantasy Battles

I think that David Gemmell has done some absolutely astounding battle scenes - his forte, I believe. I would recommend Legend particularly, simply because of the cracking underdog element to the battle.

    Coldplay

My attitude stems from the way people on this thread seem to genuinely think that if you don't like Coldplay, then you are somewhat strange in the head (see above at the comments directed towards Stewart when he said they were Radiohead wannabees). So I just took the piss a little. This just...

    Coldplay

*grin* Well, that certainly stirred a reaction! To be perfectly honest, Coldplay just fade into the background for me. I like other styles of music, but am perfectly willing to give anything a try. I just find it downright amusing that people become sheeplike when it comes to a band like...

    Coldplay

I think that Coldplay produce depressing, boring, unbelievable dull music. I've disliked every song they have done - and disliked them even more when they're played everywhere. Their music is worse than the tat supermarkets and lifts play. A couple of their songs may have been okay if they...

HP & HBP: Kids or Adult Cover

Can anyone say 'Robert Jordan'? I hated that he did this very same thing in his Wheel of Time series.

HP & HBP: Kids or Adult Cover

In the UK we can get boxsets of all the books currently released in deluxe hardback. Once all seven are out I will invest in that and give my current copies to a charity shop. Right now I have three in paperback and three in hardback. Five of them are the kiddie covers and one of them is the...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Discussion *Spoiler Alert*

I think we'll see Hogwarts again. I believe that Harry will go back at least to get the sword of Gryffindor - I think it still has a role to play... I'm intrigued by the idea that Harry's scar is another horcrux. I mean, when they went through what could be horcruxes (horcruxi?) they didn't...

    Your age

I'm now 25. I got into the books when I was 22, after some of the initial hype had died down. Picked up the first in a car boot for 50p, because I thought it was worth seeing whether the hype was justified. Raced through the others that were out at that point and became a convert.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Discussion *Spoiler Alert*

I thought this book was truly excellent! By far my favourite so far... Just a few things.. When Hermione was listing the wizards she had found with the initials R.A.B. she didn't mention Regulus Black, which is strange being as they lived with the guy's brother for a whole summer. I mean...
