I'm very excited. I don't care how the book is split, as long as I get it.
And George tends to think of the fans, rather than the money. This decision to split the books strikes me more as a way of getting the books to the fans quicker than trying to make a fast buck.
If this were Robert...
Some authors tend to be able to rein in the bad taste/unpronouncable name tendencies...
David Gemmell tends to be quite sensible with his names, as does George RR Martin.
Tends to be the authors with the most to prove who get on the unpronouncable name bandwagon :)
I re-read books all the time. Most of the long fantasy series that I'm following I will re-read in their entirety as soon as a new book comes out, just to make sure I pick up on all the nuances.
Also, I tend to read a book through first time extremely fast and so will miss bits and pieces. It...
I watched the film, and enjoyed it.
Some of the wacky touches from Douglas Adams' writing came across really well. However, the casting left a little to be desired.
And, basically, it's going to be wrong if it isn't exactly the way we imagined it in the privacy of our own mind, right? ;)...
@ direstraits - I've read all of Kelley's books so far, and I'm very impressed. Interesting plotlines and tight characterisation, with a new take on the standard werewolf legend. And now she's started branching out into more of the supernatural.
I would really recommend them. For a free taste...
It's quality, not quantity ;)
I can't say much for the two others, but Hitchhikers Guide is quality of the finest. And, honestly, if you enjoyed that, you *have* to try Jasper Fforde.
I'm a huge Jinny fan as well. Mind you, I whipped through most children's authors that wrote pony stories.
What is everyone's favourite Jinny book - mine would probably be Night of the Red Horse. It was so mysterious and a little scary! I thought that Shantih was so beautiful, and...
Hiya,
Well, I caught up with my Laurell K Hamilton reading as well - have read Seduced by Moonlight and A Stroke of Midnight from her Merry Gentry series. Enjoyed them very much, and it saddens me to say that she's probably writing better in this series than in the Anita Blake series right...
Most of the new stuff I've read has been at Martin's recommendation and I've been very impressed so far.
I have tried out some new stuff, but I tend to be fairly adventurous with my reading anyway.
Work work work for me. Busy clearing my desk so that I can have next week off with peace of mind. And clearing my desk unfortunately doesn't mean just sweeping everything into the nearest rubbish bin! :p
I read a couple of issues.
It's okay, I suppose. It seems to be finding it hard balancing the smut and the girly aspects, but maybe that will come.
Some of it is unbearably cute, like calling the stories 'cliterature', although I do like the fact they've got some bigger name authors trying...
Or the use of PM could be considered wise so that it is not splattered across different areas of the forum. There has been some fall-out over this, so that this forum reads not as 'The Book Forum' but as the 'We Hate XXX' forum. It doesn't come across as a welcoming atmosphere to anyone who...
*agrees*
It is an awful website, but the thing that totally astounded me was the way that the members constantly publically attack one another. So harsh and unnecessary.
I'm with you demetrio.
I think that the issue was handled entirely wrongly. The PM function is (unusually) enabled on this board. On a lot of other boards I frequent, it is disabled, meaning that you have to 'go public' with issues you have over other members. Since it is generously allowed...
I know that the tone of posting in recent times has made me lurk more than post, to be quite honest. I wish it were more about the books and less about people enjoying the anonymity of a computer screen.
However, just to put some perspective on this, check out the tone over at the discussion...
I know David Gemmell wrote 'Lion of Macedon' and 'The Dark Prince'. Not sure if it's what you're after, but they were set in Greece and they are fantasy based.
