I have it.
The last paragraph (and so sentence) is:
"He drove faster, much faster. We topped the hill before us and saw Lanyon lying in the hollow at our feet. There to the left of us was the silver streak of the river, widening to the estuary at Kerrith six miles away. The road to...
During the summer of 1985 I listened to a programme on Radio 4 (BBC). I was living in England at that time, and I was really enjoying all the (relatively cheap) books you could buy there. The programme on Radio 4 was about Eco's "The name of the Rose". It intrigued me so much, that I bought the...
Gee, thanks you guys. :)
It is comforting to know, that there is generally a difference of opinion on that story.
I think I will read once again, and make up my mind to which "school of thought" I belong.
Much obliged...

I see,
No I have not been a university student in England, I am sorry to say. ;) Went to a Danish university.
Is the film used as an encouragement or deterrence?
Has anyone read Henry James' The turn of the Screw? And seen the film?
I saw the film first. Didn't get it. Saw it again (I had taped it). Still didn't get it.

Then I found the book on a flee market in Bowness, Cumbria, UK. Read it. Didn't get it. Came...

Pillars of the Earth is an enthralling tale of mediaval England. And I do love a good historical novel.
Hornet Flight is (mostly) set in Denmark during the...
Hi Ashley, I recommend you start Dickens off with David Copperfield, if you are not too intimidated with the size of the book (well over 1000 pages). It is quite humorous.
Oliver Twist is probably the most straight forward, and not quite so big.
Once you get started on Dickens, you won't...
Hi Clara, I would not say I read pol. sci. for fun, but because I am interested in current affairs as well as political and social history (I am a historian by education, though not by profession).
Thanks for the tip about Robert Kagan. Sounds interesting, just the thing for me.

I do enjoy to read the occational biography on interesting people, mainly politicians, statesmen that sort of thing.
I also read political science books, not that I necessarily need for work or anything, but it interests me. Books on democracy, EU, globalization, etc.
Right now, I am...
I have just read Ken Follett's Hornet Flight. It is excellent! Set in Danmark in 1941, during the German occupation. Being Danish myself, I find it most interesting - and very well researched. I only discovered one tiny "mistake".
Now I am reading a biography of a former Danish politician and...
I accidentally posted before I was finished, sorry.
Anyway...
Ken Follett: The Pillars of the Earth
Ken Follett: The Hornet Flight (Read over new years. Brilliant.)
Maria Helleberg: Kærlighedsbarnet (The love child)
Paul Auster: The book of Illusions
Ib Michael: Vanillepigen (the...
It has been a great year for reading for me. I have "discovered" quite a few new authors (new for me):
Jan Guillou: The road to Jerusalem
The Knight Templar
The Kingdom at the end of the road.
