I know the feeling. I don't like the idea of letting my books go just any old place. I particularly don't like the idea of finding that somebody is selling MY books on ebay. However, I think there can be a balance. I wouldn't leave a book on a bus for example, but I would leave one in a...
That would be Glasgow with 2 g's? Or maybe somewhere near Moscow? JOKING!! But if it was, then I would probably think it was exotic too. Come on over, just click your heels 3 times.... No, that's for going home isn't it?
Maybe we could do a swap sometime? Don't know about postage though, I...
For Peder and anyone else who lives in NY and is interested...
I forgot to mention that on the Lawrence Block website there is a list of
bookshops (2 in NYC and 1 somewhere else) who sell SIGNED copies of his books. As for the names of the bookstores, we have nothing like that here...
Hello again
Glad to know you found Block under B before Br... :D
I noticed on that Block website we were talking about... but thats for the Block Thread I guess!!??!?!??? Confused? You will be!!!!
Will post it there if I remember and I have time too.
I have decided on a tiny...
Again, in an ideal world. A small owner can not force a big company to buy them out but big companies can force small owners to sell out, they do it all the time. As for big companies operating at the same level as small business? I actually saw this happening in Cairo in 1992 when there was...
I will check it out for sure but...
Is that a sweeping generalisation or not? . Also, union bosses are employed by the union membership, if they are corrupt this is not a natural phenomenon, in other words, the situation CAN be changed.
I just finished The Burglar Who Painted Like Mondrian. What a great read! So witty! Very smart! Everytime I finish one of Block's books, I think it is better than the last one! I will pace myself now and wait a week or two before starting "The Burglar Who Traded Ted Williams". Don't you...
Did you ask at a Glasgow library? I believe I heard they stop bothering after 3 years. (Not that I condone the "theft" of library books you understand) See "The Burglar Who Painted Like Mondrian" for a great line on that (but that's a different thread obviously!)
Oh! That's another great point I forgot to add...
Used to be only 6 books at a time at our library, I found out only recently that the allowance was 16. (I only found that out because all the book requests I made came in, all together and really quickly!) I just realised you're in Glasgow...
Can't you ask your library to order books for you? I did that here recently and was surprised how keen they were to order. Having said that, it was a few weeks ago now and I'm still waiting for the book! I agree that it's pretty disgusting to try to read a book with somebody else's dinner on...
Yes, in an ideal world maybe... but what happens if a big company happens to decide to snap up your small company? The small company doesn't REALLY have a choice then. If convenience stores are successful then I would say that is because large chain companies are not interested in taking them...
I had word of my first "catch" two days ago. Actually it was a "controlled release" I suppose as I actually gave it to somebody. Anyway, the journal entry says the book would be released next somewhere in Spain! A perfect release I think? I love the idea of all my released books...
Turn my back for a minute and look what happens! Well, a bit longer than that actually. I am very impressed by the number of posts here...
Sorry, I don't have time to read them all, I just want to answer Moto's question. I agree with the view of greedy employers for a number of reasons...
Not sure which is the first but you can check on this site if you like...
I don't know that it matters much with the Burglar series as he doesn't seem to age. Anyway, you will find the order of the series here:

I just finished Mondrian... still laughing!
Oops! Forgot to say...
I just added the Mankell sites today and the Block one the other day...
THAT is the magic...
just reply with link and it is added!! Just like that!
ENJOY!
It's good to know everybody likes their library as much as I do. I want to say that our local public library have recently stopped charging for holding or requests for books in any way, not even for the postage. I am really impressed by that. (Don't know and am afraid to ask how they do it!)...
