    Gabriel García Márquez

This is good to hear. I was getting scared since I have One Hundred Years of Solitude waiting to be read, and I like fascinating reads, but hate boring books.

Books to Read with My Son

My son is about a year and a half old now, and I'm a compulsive reader. I'm going to have to start reading with him, but I don't think he will go for Conrad or Nabokov. I need some books I will enjoy that I can read with him. Beautiful art, literary qualities despite the age level, and stuff...

Suggestions: July 2006 Book of the Month **Non-Fiction Only**

I wouldn't mind discussing A Beautiful Mind, since I read it last year, but I'd rather read something new. I think I'm going to read So Many Books, So Little Time, so I'll recommend it. So Many Books, So Little Time by Sara Nelson.

Sara Nelson - So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading

Will this book be really enjoyable if I haven't read most of the books she has read? Also, I read a review of her book on Amazon that her lifestyle is quite central to the book, whereas not everyone shares her lifestyle. Would this affect my enjoyment of her book? Just want to consider...

Demian by Hermann Hesse made me think.

    The Maritimes

Thanks. I'll try Alistair MacLeod. I also think I'll go for L.M. Montgomery. I didn't get to her in childhood, but I guess I'll dive in now.

    Eagle's Nest Live Video

Cool. That site satisfies my curiousity. It seems the site I talked about had a hatching failure, because the eggs are gone. Now the video shows the mother being puzzled about her nest. I think the quality of the video on the site is really good. Also, Microsoft was actually giving them...

Sara Nelson - So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading

I think I will add it to my list. The hardest part about reading so much is keeping my books to read pile full of interesting books. There are thousands of books to read, but choosing them is hard sometimes. It sounds good.

    Eagle's Nest Live Video

Anyone watching the eagles? http://www.infotecbusinesssystems.com/wildlife/ They are supposed to hatch a baby, but it's not looking good. There is a whole chat forum attached to the site. Wow!

    The Maritimes

Anyone from the Maritimes in Canada? I'm a Nova Scotia boy living in Korea now. Anyway, that's not the important question. I just read The Old Judge; or, Life in a Colony by Haliburton, and I want to read some more Maritime literature. Any suggestions? I would prefer stuff that is set in the...

What do you use as a bookmark?

There was a time in my life when using the dog-ear was unthought of, but that's what I do now. It just happened. I hate borrowing books from people, because I'm scared I'll dog-ear it by accident and they'll kill me.

Sara Nelson - So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading

My New Year's resolution is to read 100 books. My first two years or so after university I read maybe 10 books total. I was busy settling into work, life overseas, and a marriage. Yikes!!! Anyway, last year I read about 50, so I thought I'd put the bar up this year. I'm already at 37, and I'm...

    The Most Whack Writers

Can't believe people are being so hard on the Beat writers. Them guys was real cool cats. So what if their literature was a bit cloudy from the dope they took by the shovelful? Faulkner is not "whack" although he may be wacko. It took me a long time to be able to get into him, but I must say...

    Jack London

Of his novels, I think I've only read White Fang and Call of the Wild. Of the two, I enjoyed White Fang for its settings and presentation of nature. I especially liked the sections when young Fang was living with his mother in the wild, and I also really enjoyed the first section of the book...

    Nature Literature

Great. Thanks everyone. Those suggestions should keep me busy for a while. I heard about a couple of those before, but only in passing, and would never have considered them during a book shopping session.

    Nature Literature

Some of my main interests are environmentalism, nature, animals and stuff like that. Some books I've enjoyed recently are: White Fang - Jack London The Call of the Wild - Jack London My Side of the Mountain - Jean Craighead George Julie of the Wolves - Jean Craighead George O...

    How often do you read?

Not often enough. If I read 24 hours a day for the rest of my life, I won't finish everything that I want to read.

    24 Hours

I read that in a day last year. My average is three or four days per book. I guess last month I scored with Kenzaburo Oe's "J" and "Seventeen", but they're rather short.
