Reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where the last man on earth sits down to finally read at the library without any interruption ... And breaks his glasses!
I'm reading Life by Keith Richards. Finished chapter 1 and struggling with chapter 2. About to find out how interested I am in Keith's life. So far I'm not going to be accusing Keith of being a good writer or story teller. Hopefully his writing style will change as this book progresses...
It's 1975, I'm in Fordyce, Arkansas. I'm being detained by the local police while I wait for the band's attorney to keep us from being locked up for felony drug possession.
I don't want to go to the dark side! Each day, though, the dark side call is stronger. I'm getting older. My eyesight is worsening. Gas is expensive. I hate shopping. And so on.
The e reader is convenient. It takes the pain out of driving and parking and shopping. When I want a new...
Time to dust this thread off.
Love Tom Robbins writing style and ideas.
Found and devoured ECGTB at 15. The adventure and imagery of the story just captured my attention.

Joining this forum will probably get me to read ECGTB again. A trip down...
Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson
"The true adventure of two Americans who risked everything to solve one of the last mysteries of World War II."
Dry technical start that explained deep sea wreck diving followed with a good pick up of story line and character development. I was drawn in more...

Coming into the group late, it's all been said and done, but I'll add my two cents anyway. bg, very nice review of the book. I agree 100% about it's high achievement as a memoir.
Just finished Just Kids by Patti Smith. An autobiography/biography of her life and her life with Robert Mapplethorpe (sp?). It's a must read for anyone who is even the slightest fan of Patti Smith. Very interesting and a surprise around every corner.
Just starting Shadow Divers by Robert...
Hi Landslide, Will, thank you. Now to figure out how to attach a "currently reading ..." tag to my name and how to post a book cover of what I'm currently reading.
My daughter likes books with a story of troubled and struggling teens who find their way successfully to better friends, a better lifestyle and a better life. Near to real life happy ending stories.
Any suggestions?
I found this site while searching for brick and mortar bookstore thoughts. I'm always afraid to spend my money and time on books that aren't worth reading, but always hopeful that something wonderful is just around the corner. This seems like a great venue for ideas. In fact I've already had...
