    Favorite Cookbooks

I have a whole shelf full of cookbooks and I also keep a binder with my foodtv favorites in them. One of my all time favorite cookbooks is Cooking from Quilt Country by Marcia Adams. Very simple, country cooking at its finest. And its illustrated so beautifully it fun to just look through.

    What have you planted recently?

My favorite Hibiscus. I bought this plant without blossoms so I had no idea what they would look like when it bloomed. I like to live life on the botanical edge. I just love it when this happens!

Creating the reading habits in children

Excellent suggestions, of course you are preaching to the choir here.:) When my kids first started in school I was surprised to find that many of their classmates were not read to by their parents, many didn't even have books in their home. We are not just talking about the economically...

    The Bipolar Hindrance

That must be awful. I know that certain meds work for one but then not for another, or maybe it needs to be just the right combination. It's a very difficult balance to find. I hope your doctor switches you back to what was working. Best wishes.

    What books have you hated?

I had a flash back. Bridges of Madison County. My MIL let me borrow it when we were visiting her so I read it all the way through (I felt obligated.) I really disliked this book. Neither of the characters seemed sympathetic. A roaming photographer shacks up with some disillusioned housewife...

Which Was the Last Book You Read in One Sitting?

Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I had been putting it off, thinking it would be one of those books that is too heavy, too overwhelming, etc. It was not. It was an amazing story and I honestly couldn't put the book down until I had finished. Started yesterday morning, read until evening and I...

    what's everyone up to today?

You're lucky to have a doggie day care, comeflyaway. What kind of puppy do you have? Maybe we should start a pet thread, we seem to be hijacking this one a bit. Btw, I'm home with a cold today. I'm all hopped up on dayquil and sinus spray. It's flippin' 90 degree's today and I have the...

    books on the holocaust

This is a bit off your request but I wanted to also mention a book called The Lost by Daniel Mendelsohn. It centers on a part of the Mendelsohn family that lived in the Ukrain when the Nazi's invaded. There is no part of the story that takes place in a concentration camp but I thought this...

    what's everyone up to today?

I'm so sorry Shadforth. God willing Pearl will have as many happy years as Trini. You must have taken excellent care of her.

    What do you do?

Part of my duties as secretary, bookkeeper, property manager extraordinaire is I get to read electric meters once a month (tenants get the bill.) If water meters are like electric meters, I feel your pain.:D

Brick & mortar bookstores- R.I.P. & good riddance

I'm schizophrenic I guess. When I know what I want I go online. But sometimes I don't know what I'm looking for until I find it. I have a terrific used bookstore in my town and its one of those slightly untidy mixtures of old and new. I love browsing in there. I'd miss it terribly if it closed.

    what's everyone up to today?

Well, we'll need one. If we're going to go for road trips I can't be on no square sponge back seat. I want the one's with a heated seat and armrests.;)

    what's everyone up to today?

All except Molokai. We live on Oahu which is the most populated island. Hawaii is a lovely place and everyone should come her at least once. But I'm looking forward to (as I said) more space and a house I can afford. Right now you need about $600,000 for just the most humble of homes. We...

    what's everyone up to today?

I do, for sure. I've been here 25 years now. When we retire we'll move to the mainland. It's just too expensive to live here. Home ownership is out as long as we live here and I want some space.

    what's everyone up to today?

That looks like a gorgeous ride, Robert. My husband has a street and dirt bike and takes one or the other most Sundays. We live on a island though. He'd envy the variety you get to enjoy. Ride safe. Since we can post pics here's the object of my bathtub duties. Pearl, age 2 and...

    what's everyone up to today?

Took my baby to doggy training class. We ran, played, did some behavior exercises. Now we need a bath because we are covered with dirt and grass. 70 lbs of labrador retriever, a bathtub and me. It's going to get ugly.

    Gday

Welcome, Kevin. You'll enjoy you time here. I tend to think that the people voting already read the book and are giving us the benefit of their experience. Regarding speed, forgettaboughtit! It's not about how many books you read but about what you get out of them. Speed readers can go...

    Probably not good.

I didn't take the kids with me this time, not that I remember anyway.
