I LOVED Outpost! By far one of the best zombie stories I've read. I even found myself having "zombie dreams" it was so enthralling. =o) Ironically, thats high praise from me. I usually don't react to books with bad dreams. If you haven't read it you'll want to put on TBR pile, near the...

Is this the end for books?

I've come to a place with regards to e-readers. The question being, what will e-readers take the place of physical books. Honestly. As long as there are books, I'm good. I'm realize that we are going through a transformation. I'm wondering if the first combustion engine automobile...

Looking for good books for my 13 year old

Late on the draw here but check out Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I'd link you to the amazon description page but I'm not sure it's allowed. I'm not familiar with the books you mentioned in your request so I'm not sure if it's in any way similar to the books...

Where are you? (in the book you are reading) - please read 1st post

I am in a high rise in New York City with the only man who has a chance of stemming the tide of this infection. The stenches are gathering, they can smell us I guess. Our last best hope was a helicopter that just crashed when it tried to rescue us in the middle of a storm. More dead to add to...

    Novels with goodness

You may be interested in novel's by an author named Jan Karon. She has a series of books that take place in a town called Mitford. The main character is the town preacher, Father Tim, and a number of the other inhabitants of Mitford who get themselves into scrapes. Yes, some religious...

Erik Larson: In the Garden of Beasts

I agree. And I too read it at a slower pace. Normally I would "skim" over parts but not in this book. It was a fascinating view into how this psycho (Hitler) came to power. Nobody took him very seriously at first. I was engrossed from the first page. I grew up in Germany and always had a...

Where are you? (in the book you are reading) - please read 1st post

I am in Berlin in 1934 and I can no longer avoid the truth. Hitler is not a clown who is a temporary presence, a mere side show who will soon go away. He has murdered all who could stop him and for us, those who thought we could just endure and he would go away.......well, we are well and...

    Artistic License?

I just read that Orlando Bloom's character from LOTR will also be in Jackson's upcoming remake of the Hobbit. This bugs me and I'm wondering if I'm the only one. It seems like if you are going to make a book into a movie you shouldn't go and stick in characters that weren't in the actual...

What crime/horror/thriller/mystery books have you read and found appealing?

I'm really enjoying In The Shadow of Gotham / Stefanie Pintoff. It's about a turn of the century crime with the investigating detective meeting a professor who specializes in criminology. A new field at that time and one not held in high esteem yet. I'm not going to say it's a knock-off but...

have you guys read an e-book

I'm loving my kindle. It took me a little bit to get used to reading "on screen." By a little bit I would say a day or two. These are some of the benefits I've noticed. 1. Weight. A kindle is so easy to manipulate compared to a book. 2. Noise. I like to read in bed at night (lights out...

It's official: Amazon e-books now outselling print books

I can see it. Even I've come over to the dark side and my kindle was delivered yesterday. After hemming and hawing for a year or so I realized that it's really economical versus buying hardbacks. Limited availability of new releases at the library and the cost of purchasing new books...

Ken Follett: The Pillars Of The Earth

Wow. It took me a month and a half of bedtime reading to get through Pillars of the Earth. I enjoyed the book but I have to admit I started skimming in the last bit of the book. I have to wonder, did it need to be that long?

    Personal Reading Record

I have started a new practice of reading every night before sleeping. An investment in a good book light made all the difference. It's wonderful. All lights are off except my book light and I'm finding myself really being able to concentrate and get into the story. I think this will really...

Ken Follett: The Pillars Of The Earth

I'm just getting ready to start. I have my book light all ready with new batteries for bedtime reading. It's kind of a daunting size but since this is a short week, work wise, I should be able to put a dent in it.
