    Children's books that you hate/detest/despise

I still get a shudder when I think of Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom. I had to read that book to my son practically everynight for about a year. I loath that book.

    Peoples Attitudes About Reading:

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Kids should be introduced to reading through rich and enchanting stories, not drills and practice exercises. I became a reader because I had some wonderful teachers who read out loud to the class.

    A Bestseller You Hated

I am in total agreement. What a depressing book! But then I honestly can't think of a book that took place in India that wasn't dark and dreary.

J.K. Rowling: Mistakes found in Harry Potter

    AB's book cover color dilemma

I am a lapsed Catholic bookkeeper so I'm probably not qualified on color decisions either but I go with green. Green is my favorite color.

Besides Reading what other hobbies do you have????

Besides reading my hobbies are: Soaping - I make my own soap, for fun, not because I'm a hillbilly. Needleworking/Quilting - I do cross-stitch and I am getting ready to learn needlepoint, which could get ugly since I'm going to teach myself and will be starting on a kit that is at...

    "Somewhere, a dog barked."

Oh boy, now I will never be able to NOT be hyper aware of dogs barking in book backgrounds.

Sue Monk Kidd: The Secret Life Of Bees

I really, really enjoyed this book. So much so that I gave it as a gift for a relative along with some lovely Tupelo honey just to play on the theme of the bees. :) I had no idea she had another book out. I'm off to go put The Mermaid Chair on my request list at the library. To those of...

    Spy novel?

I was browsing amazon today and came across a author by the name of Alan Bradley who has Moscow Rules and Defector out. They look pretty good. I'm just adding them to my local library request list so I haven read them yet. Has anyone any feedback about them for mi77915?

    66 years ago today...

Thank goodness for the courage and sacrifice of our leaders and soldiers at that time. Imagine a world where the Nazi's had triumphed, all europe might now be goose-stepping and heiling whichever leader's took up Hitlers mantle. I don't even want to contemplate what would have happened to the...

    Your book activity today

I started Patient Zero yesterday by Maberry. Loving it. A new, more sophisticated type of terrorist has developed a bio weapon which has an interesting effect on people. I have a feeling this book will go too quickly.

    Tree Huggers

I hear they are going to try and cap / clogg that well soon. I hope it works. We clog the pipes at our house all the time. How hard can it be? It was interesting rereading this thread. Question, is it possible to be moderate in such views or does everything have to be taken to the...

    sick of serial killers

I just finished Ridley Pearson's Undercurrents so this subject is timely. I mostly go for who-done-its but every once in a while I like a good murder spree. For me I'm not so much into the serial killer side of things as much as I enjoy reading how the good guys go about finding the killer...

    Recently Finished

The Help by Kathryn Stockett I highly, highly recommend this book. I read it two days I was so engrossed.

Spent the day with Harriet Vane

I'm revisiting Dorothy L Sayers currently. I recently picked up the box set of the BBC's / Dorothy L. Sayers mysteries on DVD. I believe these are the same as some may have seen on PBS's Mystery some time ago. They are done in the mini-series style so be prepared to give up three hours to...

    The hung parliament

I'm thinking lumberjack match. The last one in the rings party wins. The Queen could be the ref. Kidding of course. It will be interesting to see how this ends up.

    Curtain: Poirot's Last Case

I would be disappointed if David Suchet was not aboard for the new season. I have a hard time picturing anyone else in the role. I think he's perfect as Poirot.

April 2010: Edith Wharton: The Age of Innocence

I enjoyed it. What a strange world of rules and social structure they lived in. I liked the way it ended. Without giving anything away it was interesting to note that those rules were were changing.
