So you are basically sitting in front of your computer reading? That just doesn't sound comfortable to me. The good thing about the kindle is you can curl up on the couch with your dog and your book and have a good read. Of course, you could do that with a book too....theoretically, I've...
I just started Black Dahlia last night and I'm loving it. I've never read an Ellroy novel before and I'm not quite sure why. It certainly isn't because I hadn't heard of him. Oh well. Time to get caught up.
My sincere best wishes to all who are going through stresses. Especially Scooter and family. I hope things get better for you soon.
Our stresses are also financial. We are fortunate in that we are still working however my husband's income has decreased and we've had to make adjustments...
Ghost Story by Peter Straub :stars4:
Enjoyed it tremendously. A good October/Halloween month read. One of the few books where I found I did not feel the need to skim.
I'm all for it. IMHP The funeral industry is one of the biggest scams going. They take advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable and make them feel like their grief is directly reflected by how much money they are willing to spend on the funeral arrangements.
I'm getting...
My kids are grown and we don't get trick or treaters at our house. So we'll just binge on spooky movies and enjoy the night. I may eviscerate a pumpkin or two.
Oh dear, it doesn't sound like grand-papa Stoker would be pleased at all.
Elizabeth Bathory? Really? Blech.
BTW, Eva. I sounds like an appalled look was most appropriate at the blasphemy done to the name of Stoker.
At the risk of being put in the stocks in the Book and Reader town square I'm going to voice my support of Rowling. She earned that money.
When I was actively volunteering at my son's school as a reading helper I was stunned to see some of the kids I was working with carrying around these...
What is the worst thing you've ever done?
I won't tell you that, but I'll tell you the worst thing that ever happened to me......... the most dreadful thing........
I have wanted to read this book for a long time. My library unearthed a worn out old yellow paged copy for me. It even...
Refering to The Price of Butcher's Meat.
I'm really enjoying it. At first I wasn't too sure about the way the story was initiated by jumping back and forth between one character's email's to her sister and Dalziel's tape recording's of his thoughts while at the convalescent hospital. I...
I just tripped over this post. Late to the party as usual.:)
I recently caught Divas on VH1, not a show I would normally be drawn to but I did really enjoy the duet with Adele and India Eyrie (sp?). I love both of their voices and together they were fabulous. I've never heard of Adele...
I enjoyed the book. It was interesting how the Father Karas character tried to find a psychiatric reason for the child's condition before he accepted that demonic possession was what they were dealing with. It addressed some of my questions regarding how can you tell the difference between a...
I am about to commence with Reginald Hill's The Price of Butcher's Meat.
Sent my husband to a friends to talk about sports and motorcycles so I have the night to myself. A nice bottle of Merlot and a slice of pepperoni pizza with anchovies complete's my day.
I really disliked that book too and it's kept me from reading any other Wally Lamb books.
This is an interesting thread. I agree with many of you and yet I disagree with many too. To each his own I guess.:)
I think this is why I love Halloween so much. When I was growing up I remember trick or treating on those cold nights when you had to slog through the fallen leaves which seemed to pile up to my knee's. Those are delightfully, shivery memories.
Question, I remember that fallen leave's...
