    Sunday breakfast

I LOVE breakfast! Breakfast burritos are the best :D

    Janet Evanovich

I love these books too! It would be great if someone could make them into movies and have them be true to the humor in the novels. I think Amanda Peet would be a great Stephanie Plum (think of her in The Whole Nine Yards) and Michael Clarke Duncan would be a fantastic Ranger (again, think of...

    Looking for violence!

Try Misery by Stephen King. Lots of good bloody violence in there - it's probably (arguably) the most gory novel he wrote.

How often do you talk about books?

I was in class today and during discussion I mentioned the book I was reading (Foop!). I almost lost people for a second (they were probably thinking, what the heck does this have to do with anything?!?) until I made them laugh and connected talking to yourself to blogging, which made like 5...

    War Fiction

I second the recommendation for The Things They Carried. It's one of the few books I've read that uses language very artfully, yet is extremely easy to read and holds the reader's interest through the entire book (even if you don't like war novels!). It's simple and profound. Great book.

How do you arrange your bookshelves?

I wouldn't be a real librarian if I didn't stick all the fiction in alphabetical order by the author's last name, then by title. I don't have enough books to organize by genre but eventually I think I'll do that :)

    Does spelling still count?

I learned a fun one from reading Matilda. It's a cute little song for "difficulty": Mrs. D, Mrs. I, Mrs. F, F, I Mrs. C, Mrs. U, Mrs. L, T, Y! The Trunchbull objected to the fact that all the women were married:p

    interpretation

Go for Poe's "The Telltale Heart." I saw that performed as a monologue once and it was completely brilliant :D

Is it worth it to become an editor?

Yep, it's true... we're all so busy making sure everyone else is reading we hardly have time to get it in our own busy schedules! But it's a good life (or will be once I graduate).

    Home Sweet Home...?

Oh yay I'm glad everyone's with me on the Hogwarts choice! Let's organize a field trip :p

    Favourite 2005 Fantasy Reads?

This year I discovered Connie Willis to my delight :) She's a very versitile writer and can turn out great writing in different styles. Comparing Doomsday Book to To Say Nothing of the Dogwas a lot of fun and very impressive.

Can working in a bookstore make you hate books?

Yess..yess.. *rubs hands together* this is my plan... make bookstores more like the library... yesssssssss!

    The Therapy Thread

Kristocat wanders in, bats at the jelly and ant on the counter, sniffs the sandwich but decides it is somehow beneath her standards and wanders back out in catlike fashion.

Books make you strange and lonely...

I read a study that said people who describe themselves as "voracious readers" are no less social than nonreaders - in fact, often they're more social! It may be because of the personality aspects mentioned here before, e.g. being curious about the world, etc.

    The say something *nice* thread

I'd like to thank anyone who quoted me (it makes me feel so special!) :D I'd also like to thank anyone who made me laugh... sooo... almost everyone here :) :p

    Web sites

There IS a site like this: go to Books In Print. There's a check box for "forthcoming" titles, and you can search by author, keyword, title, or ISBN.

Thomas Pynchon: The Crying Of Lot 49

lol Sorry, StillILearn. I didn't mean to gross anyone out; I just picked the simplest example I could think of. Amis does go into some detail though as I recall.

Is it worth it to become an editor?

lovermuffin, I majored in Comparative Literature in college because I, like you, have a real love of books and reading. I also thought about becoming an editor (Read and judge books for a living! How sweet is that?!?) but then I took a student proofreader/all-purpose gopher job in a little...

    Strange Sounding Titles...

I like funny numbers in titles too. How about A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters by Julian Barnes? Great book.
