    Literature as a Pleasure Read?

Sure I can. I just haven't encountered too much Literature that is also fun for me. Modern literary fiction (which I consider Literature) is a good example. White Noise by Don DeLillo, anything by Salman Rushdie, and anything by Barbara Kingsolver are all extremely enjoyable for me :)

    Howl's Moving Castle

I saw the movie but didn't read the book. But I could really tell that what Carica said was true and that the director ran out of time to explain things toward the end. In the last half hour or so I kept going, "Huh? What the heck was that?" But I thought it was a good movie overall.

    Fav chocolate/sweet thing?

The local chain of coffee shops sell blueberry scones that are totally irresistable... in fact I almost spoiled my supper today because of one! :D

    Home Sweet Home...?

ooo, great question Twilite! Unfortunately I have a completely unoriginal response, but it's the truth... I'd really love to go to Hogwarts. The whole castle and all the faculty and students is a huge appeal factor for me when I read the Harry Potter books so I'd really love to get that...

Thomas Pynchon: The Crying Of Lot 49

I also enthusiastically recommend this to anyone who wants a good, accessible introduction to American postmodern literature. It embodies most of the principle aspects of postmodernism, and I just can't stop appreciating how completely Pynchon puts the reader in the exact same position as the...

    Spoiled by Literature?

I'm actually on the other side of the fence. I have read lots of classic literature through my undergraduate studies in Comparative Literature, with a minor in French Literature. I even enjoyed a fair amount of it. But my true love is genre fiction - I can't get enough of it. I very rarely...

    Strange Sounding Titles...

I read a pleasant nonfiction book called The Piano Shop on the Left Bank: Discovering a Forgotten Passion in a Paris Atelier. If you've ever spent an extended period of time in Paris you'll enjoy it :)

How many books have you read in 2005?

Well I took a Popular Fiction class in the spring, and over the summer I had lots of free time to read, so there's quite a few, in lots of different genres. I'm only going to include the ones I read for the first time here, no rereads or the list would be way too long. Welcome to Temptation...

Apocalypse Now & Heart of Darkness

Read the book! Read the book! I cannot stress this enough. Heart of Darkness is an amazingly written story and I think that it will really enrich your experience viewing Apocalypse Now. I read the book first and watched the movie second and I thought that was a good way to do it. Keep in...

The word "****" on a t-shirt - freedom of speech?

I agree that the woman could wear the shirt on the street and be totally within the law. However, I suppose that many places of business, including stores and restaurants, would have made the same request of the woman though, probably legally. Is there really a legal difference between the...

Similar to His Dark Materials? ...

I'm assuming that by "similar" you mean a story involving something fantastical and featuring strong, smart older children/young adults as main characters. I thought the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis were very similar to His Dark Materials. Also, of course, there's Harry Potter. Another...

    Do you talk to yourself?

I talk to myself when I'm really trying to figure out a difficult problem, or if I'm trying to concentrate on several things at once. The book I'm reading now (Foop! by Chris Genoa) is set in the future when there's about 11 billion people on the planet and overcrowding is a problem...

Where do the bugs in light fixtures come from?

Possible. I think that the bugs really do squeeze themselves in (you'd be surprised at how creatures can get into the smallest spaces if they really want to!). The question is, what attracts them? Is it just the light or the other bugs that have already gotten in?

    CellPhone

Oh my goodness, abecedarian! Go with TMobile! That's what I have and I don't have any complaints. Usually you can sniff out a deal where you get the phone for free if you buy a contract with minutes, and TMobile gives you quite a few anytime minutes which is nice. My actual phone is a...
