Have you tried any of Tony Hillerman's novels? He does a mystery series starring Jim Chee, a Navajo Tribal Police detective, and Joe Leaphorn, his Lieutenant. It's received rave reviews and commendations from several tribal councils!
I don't know if this is against the rules, but I HAD to tell you guys that our new book was just nominated for the "2004 Reviewer's Choice Awards" by Romantic Times BookClub magazine! 35 reviewers nominate 8 books in each category of the hundreds published every year (we're in contemporary...
Hi, Will!
Don't know what you've read to date, so suggesting is a little difficult. Have you tried wandering around the Fantasy Forum? Here's a link to a bunch of different fantasy book.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
And a belated Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate it!
Also, Happy Boxer Day to all you Brits!! :D

(I suppose I should also cover that strange johnny-come-lately, Kwanzaa. Anyone here celebrate it? Don't know much about it.)
 You've never had Sweetarts, Halo!
Sweetarts are rolls of candies that are compressed, crunchy sugar and mouth-puckering tart fruit flavors. They're in the shape of a tablet about an inch around and are in different colors to match the flavors (grape, cherry, lemon, etc.)...
Haven't seen you around much, but HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It's tough having one so close to Christmas/Boxing Day/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa, etc., so we should all make sure you have your special day!
Here's your cake to go with the present:

I guess I don't really agree. There are a BUNCH of short story venues in the U.S. and more e-zines and small press print mags all the time. The thing I've noticed is that they've gone more to genre publications. All horror, or all romance, or all drama. But you're right that the pay has gone...
Wow, LoveAnn! Thanks for letting me know. Yep, we'll be writing more of them (just as soon as Tor Books contracts for them -- which they've already indicated they're interested in doing). If you pop over to the Writer's Showcase, the first chapter of the sequel, called MOON'S WEB, is posted...
Best Novel - DaVinci Code
Worst novel - No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (got the name wrong on the other thread)
Best non-fiction - Icebound (thanks for the recommendation!)
Worst non-fiction - Didn't find one.
Most original - Well, mine of course! ;)
Best children's fiction - HP...
Mercedes Lackey does terrific fantasy! She's got lots and lots of books, all set in the same alternate universe. The creatures are all very unique and interesting!
The No. 1 Women's Detective Agency. Heard it was supposed to be a sort of cozy mystery series about a female detective in an African village. Well, sort of. I made it through about two chapters (each of which was sort of a case) but finally threw up my hands in defeat as I could never find a...
For Sci-fi, don't forget Catherine Asaro. She's won many deserved awards, including the Hugo and Nebula. Susan Grant also writes some great futuristic sci-fi stuff.
Yeah, it was a very cute series put out by DC a number of years ago, under their Vertigo Press imprint. It was well drawn, but there aren't many of them. I will say that the comics were better than the movie. The film was cute, but didn't get a lot of the subtleties of the series. You might...
