Hahaha :D :p Find an illustrator for this and you've got an award-winning children's novel! Remember, the great authors steal outright!

    Pick One...

:D I'd buy that book if you'll write it, Novella! (My vote is for Farenheit 451).

Welcome! Who's your favorite author (or what's your favorite book)?

Moon's Web-Remainder (last post was cut short)

For those who want to finish the chapter: ********** But the pain washed away as quickly as it began. My mind was floating suddenly as a wave of magic filled me. Suddenly, I could hear his voice in my mind. It was as thick and sweet as honey. “You are pack of my pack, young one,” said...

Moon's Web -- Art or Entertainment (or neither)?

Okay, opening up our next book for criticism or applause. Let us know what you think: *************** MOON’S WEB Chapter 1 The scent of snow on the wind raised the hairs on my skin like distant lightning. I lifted my nose into the icy breeze that rushed past me through the open...

A question for the writers amongst us...

Don't worry about it. I wasn't offended. But I do think that entertainment has been maligned by the "artists" of the world. I see nothing wrong with putting out a book that will make a reader laugh and cry and live the life of the characters. Fair enough. I don't believe I have. Tell...

    Kumquats, a revelation

I like kumquats, but they're hard to find except in the larger cities. Has anyone tried a "pluot"? It's a plum/apricot hybrid. Really strange flavor. Not really plumy or apricoty, but something akin to a lingonberry.

    Do you catalogue your books?

When I was pretty young (10-14) range, I did catalogue my books. I collected antique children's series and knowing what I already had made it easier to find missing volumes when I visited used bookstores and estate sales. But I haven't done it in years. Too many books -- too little time. :(

    How well read are you?

Lucky dog! We only had AP English and Algebra available and they were at the same time! I took the English and loved it! So much more information than what was in the normal classes.

    Irene's Annoying Blaze of Glory

 I must have missed something somewhere. What just happened...?? Did something happen to Warm_Enema? :(

A question for the writers amongst us...

Yes, of course, I write for others. It's why people pay for the writing. If an editor wishes edits, then so be it. I have no idea -- no bit of character or setting or plot that is not open to revision. So, yes, I write for the reader. The editor is the voice of the reader (or purports to...

A question for the writers amongst us...

Well, I'm afraid I'm the lone wolf here. I write for money. Plain and simple. Writing doesn't "speak to me" as it does for my co-author. I'm fairly good at it and it pays better than most day-jobs. Some days it pays better than others, but I do like choosing my own schedule, so it's worth...

    Jokes

The following are accounts of actual exchanges between airline pilots and control towers around the world. ********************************************************** "TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees." "Center, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up...

    School Children

Well, 1984 is good, but along the same vein, I'd pick Farenheit 451 (no, not the 9/11 variety... ). Because then, the person would realize just how important books are to establishing a strong society, and perhaps they'd WRITE one. :)

    Americano Culture

Freya, Novella's being sarcastic. Actually, there are two types of "cheese in a tube" in America. One is a mild cheddar cheese that's in a can. You push the tip sideways and it squirts out onto a cracker or on celery. I actually like it quite a bit and it doesn't smell like gasoline or like...

Can overseas writers get published locally?

Well, it is true that there are a number of publishers who have stopped accepting manuscripts from unagented writers (we're agented now, but weren't when the book was first accepted). But there are still plenty of publishers who do look at new writers! If someone is interested in finding such...

    Americano Culture

You CAN buy almost any cheese in America sliced. Provolone, American, cheddar, Pepper Jack (blending of Monterey Jack with bits of red and green pepper). I use block cheese mostly, but do prefer American "cheese product" for grilled cheese sandwiches. It melts better and doesn't get grease in...

Can overseas writers get published locally?

Absolutely you (or whoever) can sell on the strength of the manuscript. Amy Tan did with her first book. So did Suzannah Clarke! While an agent is terrific if you can get one, there really are live people opening those slush pile offerings! :D
