    Books for crimbo?

I like to get gift certificates for bookstores for Christmas. My absolute favorite present! I love to wander around for hours, trying to find just the right thing to fill my gift. Of course, EVERYBODY I know will be getting a book for Christmas -- mine!! :D It's out on December 1st, so...

    Ellipsis

Well, yes and no. Readers read with a basic understanding of grammar and punctuation (at least those who attended any formalized schooling.) They know that a period signifies a stop, and a comma is a "breathing break". Admittedly, many of the other rules are fluid. But it's very distracting...

ann rice, interview with the vampire help

 Hmm. You're asking a very broad question. How he interacted with people when he was turned, or at the time of the interview with the reporter? His perception of humanity changed quite a bit over the years. Let's start with this: What observations do you have now that you'd...

    An Observation

A "cozy" mystery is generally aimed at older readers. They're less action filled and more intellectual puzzles. Miss Marple from Agatha Christie is considered a cozy mystery. They are often set in small towns or villages and the pace moves a little slower. "The Cat Who..." books are also...

    Thanksgiving Message

I decided to read everything before weighing in. First, thanks for those who extended a holiday wish for the few of us Americans on the board. Richard, I don't think that any of us are going to understand the full extent of either side of this issue. The hatred of America has been growing...

Old Christmas Threads (gifts, well wishes, etc)

Wow, drunk shopping! Too cool! You get the chance to be just as surprised as the recipient when the gift is opened... :p It depends on the year for me. This year it won't take long, as hubby and I decided to build a billiards room and buy a table! That covered both birthdays and...

    Training yourself to read slowly

 Why on earth would you want to slow down?? If you have comprehension of what you read, the speed doesn't matter. If you're skimming and not understanding the content in the time you've allotted to finish the book, that's another thing, but still doesn't mean you have to slow down...

    Aaah! Lost bookmark!

Never use them. I read until I'm done, generally. I don't pick up a book unless I plan enough time to finish it. Been working on magazines lately, though, and there I bend pages! :D

    How smart are you.

Actually, no, "Franglis" is actually a mix of THREE languages, and is spoken primarily in Gabon, Africa. It's a mix of French, English and Fang, a local language. My nephew was in the Peace Corps there for about four years, and it's a very strange language to hear! :D

    Happy Birthday Cathy C!

Mail order from a catalog called "Things You Never Knew Existed". They're on the web. Always wanted a pair next to a pond, but the pond was too far away to see every day, so we went with the fountain! :p Same catalog, different month! They're Halloween spooky faces. Actually molded...

    Films about writers

"Finding Forrester" is based on a true story, but I don't know which author is actually being portrayed. It's a very good movie, though.

    Writers block!!!!!!

Seven to ten?! Pfft! Try being under contract to deliver 400 pages on deadline and having a block! :o Anyway, back on subject -- one of the primary obstacles that cause writer's block is writing your character into an inescapable box. The hero is exhausted, starving, out of ammo in a...

Heehee. I've been told that too. :D Cathy And since today is my birthday... The penguins give me strength. Long live the penguins! (PS -- What to my wondering eyes did appear today -- three days before Thanksgiving, and right in my front yard? And me with a bird thawing in the...

    Happy Birthday Cathy C!

I did, yesterday! (darn those time differences! ) My hubby, the former chef, made me slow-cooked chicken over charcoal and mesquite, asparagas with fresh Hollandaise, baked potato and a dessert I've always wanted to try: Chocolate mousse pie! Three decadent layers of chocolate...
