Thanks everyone, for your terrific answers! I think we're probably going to go for it, if the publisher will cooperate ( ) but I certainly appreciate all of the input.
:D Cathy
You're actually liking it, huh? Sorry, not me. I gave up after 290 pages. Totally bored! The writing was good, and the imagery fine, but the plot was going nowhere. <shrug> Ah well, to each their own. Mine went to the library for others to peruse.
Working on "Furies of Calderon" by Jim...
My father-in-law beats you all. My husband is the youngest of four (3 boys, one girl). Whenever Dad gets distracted, Don (my husband) can get called Bruce or Bob, but seldom his own name.
But recently Dad took the cake and called him Barb IN PUBLIC! Not only switching names ~ but...
Yep! LOVE the Hillerman books! You might also try the "Mrs. Pollifax" series by Dorothy Gilman. Little old retired lady decides one day to become a secret agent (her life-long fantasy), so she walks into the offices of the Central Intelligence Agency and presents herself for hire! LOL! The...
LOL! My grammar teacher hated me in high school, because I could listen and read at the same time. I'd be reading a novel when some confusing sentence diagram issue arose, and she'd always pick me to come to the blackboard to diagram the example. I'd mark my place in my book, step to the...
Wow! How completely bizarre, Rex! So sorry about your lady friend. :( I guess I haven't seen much about your posts that have been objectionable on a personal level, but then, I haven't read every one so who knows. But you'd think that she'd be more willing to discuss concepts or...
You might also try "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. They're written for the 8-9 group, they're only about 100 pages each, and even adults like them. Since there's a video game and an upcoming movie based on the series, it might be something that would interest her. Very...
Yep, that's me -- the copy Cat(hy) :p
Oops! :o So sorry, forgot the metric conversion. We don't use it much on this side of the pond. Softbound book that's 15cm x 22.5 cm. Same size as a standard hardback, but with a soft cover.
Okay, this question is for all of you book *buyers* out there, (because library-goers won't care).
Our agent is selling another of our paranormal romance titles, and has suggested to us that we look at publishing in trade paperback (the softbound 6x9 size). But we're not sure if that's a...
Okay, I'll grant you the location stuff, because that's sloppy. It generally doesn't bother me, though.
But historic research is very difficult as a writer when the item, such as art history, is not your primary knowledge base. He probably bragged a bit too much, which I try not to do, but...
Are they graphic novels, direstraits, or actual comics? I'd like to pick them up, because -- yes, I admit it! -- I enjoyed the movie. If the comics are better, more to the good!
Cathy
Nope, it is. I went and found it in my library. It's the original, from before the movie. It's 599 (but the newer ones probably use a different type).
Cathy :)
Ah, but you ARE offended by laziness in a writer. But it might not be laziness. It could simply be that the author was misinformed about a location he had never visited. Speaking as a writer, I wouldn't choose to limit my books only to a location where I lived. Research is important...
I also liked this, watercrystal, but I was a little distracted by the series of "I can hear" at the beginning of each line. Perhaps just a colon at the end of the first one and then make the others a list.
But to finish it, you gave the absolute perfect ending in your next post:

It's a cyber-crawler computer program that wanders websites and looks for keywords, Billy. So when you Google, or Yahoo, etc., you can find this site by searching "Book & Forum" or some other variation. Sometimes you can see them pop up in the middle of the night. Some metacrawler companies...
And, of course, as an American, none of these things were evident to me. :o Point taken. I'd have the same reaction if someone used improper American slang (which I see a lot of), or put two cities of unreasonable distances near each other. My apologies.
Cathy
No, I'll read subtitles, provided I like the plot. However, I don't watch or read drama. Life is dramatic and thought-provoking enough for my taste. My goal is to escape reality, not relive it in another media. Not many foreign action films available in the U.S. unfortunately. I think I'd...
