Uhm, what facts? Perhaps it's just me, but I consider this book to be a fictional novel, set in an alternate reality where current history doesn't apply. I think too many people are trying to bend it to fit the existing world, much like trying to bend Orwell's 1984 to fit today's world. Parts...
Ah! We'll have to agree to disagree then, because I'd watch Terminator a dozen times before I'd remove the shrink wrap from Lawrence of Arabia! ;)

Well, it's probably not a big deal. It could be a simple case of someone meaning to comment on something privately and hitting "Send" before they typed their message. If that's the case, then you've notified them with this thread.
But, cutting and pasting from several threads involves a...
Uhm, I think you're misunderstanding the concept of "escapism", chehughes. It's literally meant to "check your brain at the door". The mere fact that you're comparing the plot logic to other known works to achieve "intelligent" means you're overthinking the story far too much.
It's sort...
Is NOT the penguins, SillyWabbit! They can't cut and paste worth a darn, and you know it! (#*@! can't manage the blankty-blank mouse... stupid flippers. Grr...)
Actually, Marquis Rex, you should be able to find the original source of the e-mail quite easily. What program do you...
Welcome, Phil! Terrific book that you're reading! I like King's take on the process. You'll enjoy your stay here!

Ignore the penguins under the bed. They mean you no harm. Really...
Welcome downthrough.
I guess I'm a little confused, because I considered The Bell Jar to be a descent into madness, rather than simple melancholy or a discussion of depression. I studied Sylvia Plath quite extensively in my teens. She considered the book to be her journey into, and...
This is a difficult line for any parent to walk, because scenes of violence surround us in our daily lives. Is it better to shield a child of six from violence, or help put it in context? Of course, it depends on the child. An involved parent will know, from daily interaction, how much or how...
Welcome! I'm afraid if you stay around this lot too much, you'll end up with more books to read than your pay will manage and you'll be kicked out of University for forgetting to study! :D
Cathy
Welcome!
I thought Wuthering Heights a bit too brooding, but that's just me. It was a good enough read, but not a favorite. Fortunately, there are books out there for every taste! :p
Cathy
Welcome! :) You might try author Tess Mallory for time-travel. She has I think six of them out. One is a series of three (two written and one coming out). I think the titles are: Highland Fling and Highland Dream (don't remember which one is first). I know that Highland Magic is the third...
LOL, Mort! :D
Probably my favorite is "If Nature Calls...Hang up!" Then, I'd have to add in anything by Patrick McManus. I love outdoor humor. One story he talks about hitting a skunk with his car. He goes through vivid detail about weeping as he's getting out of the car -- opening the...
I was glad to see that "Magic's Pawn" made the list. It's probably my favorite Mercedes Lackey title. "Dune" was high, but I don't know if I would have placed "Ender's Game" above it. And "Flowers for Algernon" ahead of "1984"!?
Oh, and for interested fans, "Wizard of Earthsea" is...
Hmm. I like horror, so I'm not easily scared. Silence of the Lambs stuck with me for days, though. I was a little twitchy around white panel vans for a week or so.
Cabal (Clive Barker) also was creepy.

For me, it depends on where in the book I stopped. If it's only the first couple of chapters, then I'll re-read it. If I'm halfway through, I probably remember the rest of the plot (as though I'd read it years ago) and I'll just pick it up. Although, I have to admit that I seldom stop a book...
