Oops! Right you are -- Affleck, not Stiller. Sorry.
Probably my favorite part was in her apartment, putting out the "burning bush" with the extinguisher! hahaha :D
Ooo! I've got her latest hardback in my TBR pile - Smoke & Shadows. It's a spin-off of the Victory Nelson series. Reviews on it have been super. Soon, soon <whimper -- too many books! too many books!>
Cathy :p
He wasn't trying to convince you. It's fiction and I think people keep forgetting that because it's gotten all tied up in the religious and political implications.

9 out of 10 penguins like fiction!
That reminds me of a show I watched on television last night. If you can believe it -- professional Extreme Dodgeball! No kidding! Teams of five, and these guys and gals can heave that rubber ball at 50-60 mph! The other side is only about 20 feet away and the force of getting hit...
And this might well happen unless informed people such as ourselves never visit schools to talk about exceptional books, don't contact educators to express your dismay about the current state (whether or not you have kids!) and don't volunteer to read to children at your local library. Schools...
Really miss the deep-fried, crispy pastry apple pies. Now they serve "baked" pies that are tasteless and doughy. Sigh! Such is the price we pay...

Penguins don't have to worry about supersizing it!
Welcome, dollymixture (or do you prefer Steph?) Do you read just English Lit, or is it just a convenient wrapper to hide your pulp romances? :D

Many penguins are Cambridge alumni
Hmm, I guess this is sort of like asking why my eyes are blue. Haven't a clue! But I do read every word, and my comprehension rate (according to high school testing) is 92%. Of course, I also type at 110 wpm, so maybe it's just some sort of built-in warp drive. :D

Penguins read...
Well, I joined during the aforementioned "banning," but I read banned books, so I'll chat with a banned member. It's only right and fitting!
Hi, bobbyburns!
Cathy
The penguins tell me they like bobbyburns, and I always listen to penguin musings!
My favorite is "irregardless". My usual comment (unless my husband hits me first) is "Really? How kind of you to agree!" ;)

The penguins give me strength! Long live the penguins...
I'm unconvinced. Seeing the aftermath of the strike shows nearly one full section of the building that was either destroyed outright or rendered unusable. That building was built hell for stout because of its purpose as defensive headquarters for the heads of the armed forces. No commuter...
Huh? Having worked at McD's in my wandering youth, I don't know what this is. Do you mean federal and state income taxes, perhaps? The Internal Revenue Service handles federal taxes. That's all I can think of...
I think my husband would object. 20 years and counting.
Well...
Definitely depends on the book. Anything under 300 pages in an evening. Over, and it will take 2-3 days (HP-Order of the Phoenix took 3 days). I can't think of anything that's taken me a full week.

The penguins give me strength! Long live the penguins...
Ah, but the issue is whether their choice somehow earns them ridicule? If a person chooses to be fat, doesn't excuse their actions, and doesn't blame anyone or ask for anything, why is it considered appropriate and, in some cases, encouraged, to hold them up to the light of infamy as some sort...
Heaven save me from Elvish poetry! AARGH!
Also on my "difficult to read" list:
It by Stephen King (yeah, I agree. It had some terrific spots, but the rest...)
Ghost Story by Peter Straub (can't remember the co-author on that one)
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
I actually liked Odysses...
