Hmm, sorry, but I don't agree. The problem you're facing is comprehension of word content, vs. analysis of the context to form a conclusion that may not be PART of the content. The example you cite is one that I'm not sure general reading will solve. To take A, B, and C and draw a conclusion...
If I had been critiquing this, Eugen, I would have found this a bit strange as dialogue. It does seem to be a little too picturesque for a flustered person to think of. But Novella is correct -- I probably would have approached it with questions, such as "Why would the speaker remember the...
About the best that I can say is that if you are publishing your first novel and your initial edit letter isn't 15-20 pages, ask for another editor. Yeah, I know it seems like a lot, but often things that are inside your head never make it to the paper. While it might make perfect...
Afraid many of us are English-speaking-only here, Bulldozergirl. Although there probably are a few among us who can read this. Could you translate for the rest of us??
Me for one, Bulldozergirl, and I know there are others. We (I write with a co-author) have three novels and two anthologies either on the shelf or in the works. You can visit our site to see them, if you wish. If you have a question on publishing, you can PM me. We try to keep the boards...
I use 10x15 size envelopes, rather than 9x12. They work a lot better! Hold a bunch more and it's not too big for the corner mailboxes. If you use this, put the postage and a clean label attached to the query letter. Editors are bright people. They'll figure out you intend the envelope to be...
NEVER! NEVER will I give up my soft and fluffy penguins! They give me strength!
(Psst--Didn't notice because I'm too infatuated by your dancing bunny to see mere words! You do know that bunnies are far more evil than penguins, don't you?? :D )
You got 100 because your teacher saw the beginnings of talent. It doesn't come out of a cereal box fully formed. It's wheat in the field that needs to be picked and formed and sugared to make the final product. Head up! It takes practice. But very good beginning. I agree with the other...
Mostly it's because there are only so many words in the English language, and copy editors get snarky if you keep using the same one over and over! :D When you're writing 100,000 words, you had better get out the handy-dandy thesaurus!
Mostly it depends on my mood. There are times when I like the big, spreading chain storess with cushy chairs where they don't mind you reading the whole darned book if you like! Other times, I like to wander through musty-smelling shelves filled to overflowing with volumes of all descriptions...
Oh, my goodness, Sillywabbit! I just noticed that too! You're a MODERATOR now! Whatever will my penguins do...? Don't you DARE ban them to live with Ou be!
So what -- are you others following Bulldozergirl around from place to place to flame her and try to make the rest of us take sides against her from the get-go?
Sorry, won't play. We're capable of defending ourselves nicely. Be nice, the rest of you, or go away.
Welcome...
A lot of times I'll use a situation, honeydevil. For example, I was in the grocery the other day, and the woman in line in front of me was a tiny, shrunken old thing with a bad hump from osteoperosis. But she was happy and smiling and friendly to the young clerk when he messed up her order and...
