    What's Wrong With my Writing?

Yes, too many adjectives, but the last part of the last sentence was very suspenseful and hooked me. Nothing wrong there.

    Why I only read non-fiction

Last week I picked up the mass market paperback version of Danielle Steel's book "A Good Woman". It was the first fiction book I had picked up in about twenty years. It reminded me about the real reasons I stay in the non-fiction section of book stores. Somewhere along the line I had started...

    The Amazon, Wal-Mart price war

Now it's getting interesting. I wondered how they would handle best selling authors and it looks like they are doing two things with them - delaying the e-book to avoid taking sales away from the new hardcover, and secondly charging a higher price for the e-book relative to other e-books.

Top ten list - highest paid authors

No I have not. The book I'm reading now is the first book I've ever read by her, and it's the first fiction I've read in about twenty years. I do remember the interview with Danielle Steel on 60 Minutes after her son died. I remember there was a small portion where she was filmed at her...

Top ten list - highest paid authors

The internet is a tough medium for communication. Perhaps you should re-read my post and imagine me in a slightly drunken state, in a small pub in Dublin with a broad smile across my face as I toast the ten authors. I have no doubt whatsoever that there are many talented writers, even more...

Top ten list - highest paid authors

I have not a complete book from any of those ten authors. I am currently reading A Good Woman by Danielle Steel and I was moved to tears in the first chapter. Her writing is most certainly not garbage and I can't believe you would have the audacity to say she is not a "real" writer. Waste of...

    The Amazon, Wal-Mart price war

David Young, the person quoted in the article I mentioned, says that they can't. He appears to be correct, how can a small independent bookstore sell new release hardcovers for $9? They can't even buy them that cheap.

    The Amazon, Wal-Mart price war

Wal-Mart said it is determined to have the lowest online prices for books. Last Thursday they priced it's 10 most anticipated hardcovers at $10 a piece. Amazon matched them, and then Wal-Mart dropped their price to $9. Then they dropped it another penny a few hours later. A Wal-Mart spokesman...

WSJ overtakes USA Today as number 1 newspaper (sort of)

I don't like that rule about allowing some electronic editions to be counted with print, I wonder what the specifics are on that. The article points out, and I think it's worth repeating, that the change of status is due to falling sales at the USA Today, not to increasing sales at the WSJ...

What books do you re-read and why?

I re-read a book called How I Made $2 Million Dollars in the Stock Market by Nicolas Darvas. He showed that it really is possible to start with a small amount of money and make it big in the market, AND it can be done under difficult circumstances. Back in the days when I wanted to be a...

LOL! I never really understood bridal magazines - are there women out there who make a career out of being brides?

Do sci fi publishers want a trilogy?

Should I wait to send out queries until I have an entire trilogy written, or should I go ahead with a single manuscript? Also, is there a format that is most widely used these days? Back in high school, (70's/80's), I was taught how to properly type up a manuscript with an IBM Selectric. I...

    A non-fiction reader neurosis?

Is there such a thing, or am I the only sufferer? I often get so excited about reading a book or other piece of material, that I can't actually concentrate and read it. Tonight is a great example, I have my Wall Street Journal and my Barron's and everytime I pick them up to read them I lose my...

    bn publishing

Last year the price for an out of print book I was looking for on Amazon was $100 and up. If I remember correctly, I saw a few copies being offered at $300. Just for kicks I looked it up today and see that it's a regular priced in print book now, published by bnpublishing.net. The name of the...
