What's the best opening line of a book (fiction or non)?

"I woke this morning with a stranger in my bed. The head of blonde hair beside me was decidedly not my husband's. I did not know whether to be shocked or amused." - Falling Angels, Tracy Chevalier. I had to know what this book was about after reading that.

"Falling Angels"- Tracy Chevalier. It's set in the early 1900's in England. Good stuff.

What's the WORST book you ever read?

Flowers in the Attic was really bad.

    Why do you read?

I read because I'm a strange kid with nothing better to do. Seriously, though, I read to entertain myself.

How do you arrange your bookshelves?

Organizing books? Who needs it? Hee. I have one bookshelf with tall shelves and all my hardcover books get stuck in there. I have a shorter bookcase with tons of random paperbacks stuffed in however they fit, and the shelf underneath my TV has more paperbacks. There isn't any order. It takes me...

    How big is yours?

Well... all the shelving in my room is full of books, and if it's on one of my shelves, it means I haven't read it yet. So probably around 200 because I buy books with the intention of reading them and then go buy more without finishing the ones I bought last time I went shopping. My name...

Wow, Alice, 6 books? I don't think I could do that! Two, maybe, but not 6.

Do you seek out or pay attention to book news?

I don't really pay attention to book news in general, but if I know that a book I really want is coming out soon, I will seek out the date it comes out. I don't bother with reviews, because even if I read reviews, I wouldn't pay attention to them because only I know what I like.

do you keep a book list?

Tara, I tried to start doing that, but that would be too much work for me. Title, author, and whether I've read it or not is good enough for me.

Lending books... and getting them back

Sometimes my friends will borrow books from me. For example, I let a friend borrow the fifth Harry Potter book from me and he took a month to get it back to me. After 2 weeks, I started asking him about my book. So, I guess, two weeks.

    Worst/Most Overrated books

I thought "Flowers in the Attic" was one of the worst books I have ever read.

Your favourite bookshop / place to buy books

To just hang around and read, I prefer a big bookstore with comfy chairs, like Books A Million. But to actually buy books, I like used bookstores like McKays because it's cheaper.

How much do you spend on books annually?

I have no idea how much I spend on books a year. I probably don't want to know.

Lending books... and getting them back

I write my name in my books as opposed to using bookplates. And yeah, sometimes I loan books to people and don't get them back, so unless I know I'll get the book back, I'll only loan books I won't miss if I don't get them back.

How many books on the go?

I usually read only one at a time unless I leave that at school or someplace. Then I'll start another one and have two going after I find the one I've lost/left.
