Happy 2005 Labor Day Weekend American's

Labor Day America's salute to the working man, and a good excuse (like we yanks need one) to tie one on. Our farewell to Summer. and, BTW, it is definitely NOT spelled with a 'u'!! :D

You can use the f-word in class

My mother has never uttered a swear in her life. At least not that anyone other than she could hear. My father reserved his curses for special occasions, too. - The grand opening of a pack of cigarettes. - days of the week that ended in 'y'. - the release of air from his lungs. You know...

    The pussification of America

Never thought about it, Peder, but my elementary school playground was asphalt. We had steel monkey bars and all that, too. The playground in the projects where we lived was gravel! Now all you see is sawdust or wood chips. I guess that's better, but I have always thought a few nicks and...

    Fighting Mother Nature

Tragic. I was scheduled to take my first ever trip to New Orleans this winter. I was really looking forward to Bourbon Street, and the French Quarter, and all that cool-sounding stuff that I had never seen. It is surreal to think of there not being a New Orleans. I cannot imagine the...

    Do you keep a journal/diary?

Jenn-o-spamaliscious... I cannot imagine this forum before you started your blog! The threads should just have been called "Jenn, come spam me!" And all could have eventually been merged to one! :D (you seen your sister?)

    Coffee

We had both, Miss Shelf. Mom would start the stove-top on Saturday mornings. We, too would use the big electric one for company! (Navy coffee sucks, anyway, Robert. Not to mention midwatch coffee! We had the same deal in the Corps. It would definitely keep you awake though! I prefer...

    Carwash

I just stumbled on this, Novella. Entertaining. I really expected her to die before she could get back to the carwash guy. I envisioned her purple-faced, waterlogged body splayed on the yellow plates, lurching inch-by-inch out of the carwash exit, and getting sprayed with turtle wax!

    Coffee

I think percolated coffee is much more tasty than the drip stuff. Just an opinion, probably tied more to nostalgia than fact. Mom used to make the big percolator on weekends and I loved the smell that filled the house! goooood stuff!

Difference between British and American Order of the Phoenix

Thanks, Sitaram! I love a good debate between the Brits and the Yanks, but I was scratching my brain housing group trying to figure out what the f*** an ootp was! :D

What do you pay for gas?

No smartassedness taken! (please don't worry about offending me. I'm pretty thick, both of head, and skin! :D ) I really don't know too much about what sets the price that I pay at the pump. I was aware that much of the price was taxes, but I really don't understand where all the profit is...
