What are your thoughts on this? This is something Stephen King was told by and editor when he was first starting out.
Basically that the 2nd draft of writing (namely, a novel) should be the 1st draft minus 10%.
Effect? Good advice?
Just curious as to what type of writing style people use. Now I'm not wondering what kind of genre you like, I'm asking how you write your stories. Do you use a lot of detail, humor what kind of narrating voice you use, that sort of thing.
I prefer standard past-tense style narrating voice...
So where do you draw the line between being "inspired" by a story or by actually stealing an idea/concept/character?
For example, I have a favorite author, Jim Butcher. Basically the main character is a "wizard" living in Chicago who interacts with demons, vampires, etc. A submain character...
For me I first read the title. If it attracts me than I pull the book out from the shelf and turn to the back. I read a bit of what the story is about and if I am interested I take the final stage which is reading the first two sentences. If the first two sentences do not grab me then back it...
My bf and I play this game to help with writer's block as well as to learn new words. The way it works is that the first person comes up with 5 random words. It is then the next person's job to create a paragraph using those 5 words. It can be serious, silly, true, fantasy, etc...as long as you...
Ok....
the game is to post a wish...and the next person grants your wish but with an evil end to it.
For instance, I say..."I wish I had a car".
The next person says..."Granted: But the car comes in a box".
Lets see how funny this turns out to be.....
Here's my wish.....
I wish I...
I just got this idea from Reader's Digest. People seem to get more creative when they're writing or making up excuses. So, guys, what's the weirdest, funniest, silliest, wackiest, most creative excuse you could ever think of to the question: "Why can't you submit your homework / paper today?"...
Are they good? ARE THEY GOOD? WTFFF!!!
They're more than good--it's a f***ing masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He only one wrote one adult novel, and no writer in the past or the future can rival this book--because, this book--this scintillating masterpiece grabs you from the very opening...
Read his short stories. You will love his short stories, even though you hate his novel.
Begin with Night Shift and then move on to Skeleton Crew. That's pretty much it. His other collection pales in comparison to these two books.
I can guarantee you will love the "Last Rung On The Ladder".
Well, well.
How are you Similia? Didn't you say, in the previous thread, that that was your last post? Not only are plagarist (just like me), but also a liar. Now we see who the true culprit is. Why attack our moderator, when he did nothing or said nothing of the nature to insult you? Why...
For those aspiring writers out there, do you go insane when you hear noise outside your perimeter, or can you filter them out?
I go nuts when I hear someone speaking in my native tongue, and or English, or when I hear music blaring in the background. But foreign, or reasonable chatter (so...
What qualities do you look for when choosing a new author? What authors do you keep going back to, time and again, and get excited when you see they have a new book coming out? Why?
