Lionel Shriver: We Need To Talk About Kevin

I finished this book yesterday and I can't stop thinking about this book. Here's my review: If anybody wants to discuss this book, please hop in. I am dying to talk to someone about this book.

Lionel Shriver: We Need To Talk About Kevin

I am struggling with this book. I find the language complicated and the sentences quite difficult to follow. I sometimes have to read every sentence twice to understand what the author is trying to convey. With this speed, I think I will finish the book only next week.

    Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner is an easy read. The narration is straight forward and the story wavers between interesting and predictable. The novel is about a boy who has to come to terms with his conscience. A mistake which he made in his childhood continues to haunt him well into his adulthood. At a...

Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go

I am yet to read any of his other books, so I can't compare his narration style. I have heard this from many people that Never let me go has a boring narration, it's very simple etc. I do not completely agree with this. It could be because English is not my first language and I haven't really...

Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go

I also liked the fact that nowhere in the book the author reveals the appearance of his main characters.

Kazuo Ishiguro: Never Let Me Go

This was my first Ishiguro book and my initial reaction would be 'I loved it'. The first chapter begins with words like 'carer' and 'Hailsham' and it aroused curiosity and made me read more. The way Kathy narrates the incidents without any order (chronological or whatever) keeps the reader...

    Hari Kunzru: Transitions

The opening line of this book caught my attention and I decided to give it a try. This book is about a bollywood actress, a business tycoon based in London and an Indian 'software engineer' who finds himself in the US in dire conditions. The author has linked the three characters in an...

    Suggestion: Posts

I think that's a very good idea, Stewart. If you ask me, I think they should close the General Chat area.

Ken Follett: The Pillars Of The Earth

I read this book long long back. All I can remember about this book is that it was too lengthy and I did not like it. I liked Follet's other books, but this is my least favourite book of his.

    Jhumpa Lahiri: The Namesake

Read a few stories 'Interpreter of maladies' and to be honest, it gets quote boring. All the stories have the same basic theme - an NRI Indian (or family). I agree I liked the first few stories, but then it becomes so repetitive later. I admit I left the book unfinished.

Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter

I am really sorry Libre, I didn't have any intentions of offending you. Trust me, its not that I wanted to thank nhunter and did not want to thank you. Just that there was nothing to comment on what you said. I haven't finished the book -- I am just 5 chapters into it. Once I finish it, I...

Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter

Thanks for the advice, nhunter! I will be every careful who I mention this book to! :D I have read 4-5 chapters and I am still not bored. I will remember your advice -- I will keep the book aside when I get bored.

    Someone tell me this.

May be I am posting this too late. Martin, I have noticed this change too. Most of the discussions I see are not about books at all. When I joined, General Chat was more active than any book discussion section, but it was sensible. Some of the threads that are there now in GC are like...

    Ernest Hemingway

I have heard that "Hills Like White Elephants" is a good short story. Haven't got to read it yet. Any idea if its in the public domain?

    Time

I am not into poetry. I was jobless the other day and wanted to do something to kill time. I started to write a story, but it mysteriously turned into a poem! This is the outcome. Let me know what you guys think. - Sanyuja ============================== The other day my grandpa...
