I remember reading Milton's Paradise Lost and being blown away by the imagery. A couple of years later I saw The Fellowship of the Ring and was strongly reminded of my experience reading Milton.
Salman Rushdie is also really wonderful with his descriptions. His writing in general is just...
Leckert, actually I have... twice. I had shark and crab when I was in the caribbean once, and I didn't like them that much, but I didn't find them totally repugnant either. I think you're right about the smelliness and the "fishy" taste. The shark and crab in the caribbean didn't have that...
I'm originally from the Chicago area and I feel like a traitor saying this... but...
I don't like stuffed pizza.
Even more,
I LOVE Pizza Hut!!! I love the grease, I love the cheese, the pan pizza is the best. Their dessert pizza is also fantastic.
Once I was in San Francisco on...
I'm so glad I live in Central Time and I don't have the conflict with survivor and the apprentice. The way the programs run here, the apprentice follows right after survivor, making for a fantastic Thursday night with my fiance! We love watching both and discussing everyone's actions and...
I have a scary story about that.
My aunt once put a Healthy Choice microwave fish dinner in the microwave to heat it up, and the fish started THROWING OFF SPARKS while it was cooking, because of the mercury level! She dumped it in the garbage and I don't think she's bought any more of those...
Ooo, Ronny, I know just what you mean... yesterday I got to break out my flannel-lined , thick cottony hooded sweatshirt, so soft and comfy and warm... ahhhhhhhh bliss.
I completely agree. At my university there's an experimental cornfield right in the middle of campus and in september when you walk past it at night before they cut down the dry stalks it's all rustly and dark and whispery... it's bad when you're a freshman by yourself!!
I am an early bird, I ususally wake up naturally around 7:30 or 8 a.m. and want to go to sleep around 11. I love sleep and even though I have to get up around 6 for work and school I can usually get at least 7-8 hours a night.
My fiance on the other hand is a total night owl. He'd like to...
Yeah, it's in situations like this when you gotta wonder whether print is really superior to electronic, and wish that some kind of happy medium could be found between the two... something that you could do a search in, or mark up guilt-free, yet not strain your eyes sitting in front a screen...
Ones that make me laugh are irresistable to me. Here's a few:
"'That sort of smells religious, wouldn't you say?'"
-Belgarath in Polgara the Sorceress by David & Leigh Eddings
"'Whoops,' said the Savior."
-The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore...
When I was a kid my mom used to take me and my sister to McDonald's, and when she was ordering for us she'd say, "And one small fry". Then, when we got up to the drive-up window, the McDonald's people would hand us a whole packet of fries, not just one small fry... I thought the McDonald's...
I am totally with you there jenn. Socks are freaking awesome. I wear them all the time and whenever they are removed, even in summertime, my feet break out in a cold sweat.
1. Cereal or a bagel and fruit, and of course coffee!
2. I love breakfast food so it's a close call between scrambled eggs and hash browns and breakfast burritos.
Edit: After reading all these I can't believe no one has mentioned breakfast burritos! They're the greatest!!!
Personally I loved Stephen King's The Stand. The Dark Tower series by him is good too. But if you want lots more post apocalyptic suggestions try this thread.
AA - a word of caution - King's Dark Tower series is very long, and vampires don't really show up until The Wolves of the Calla, which is the 5th book in the 7-book series. I think the series is great and definitely worth reading, but if it's just vampire stuff you're looking for and you're...
Yep, I'm going for my masters. I'm going to focus on public librarianship, and eventually maybe someday be a reference librarian. I figure it's a great choice because I already love helping people and answering questions :D And I'd really like to work in a smaller library so I could get to...
