Yes, a $12,000/yr paycut in 2013. I'd rather make less and be happy doing what I do than stay stressed out. It isn't work if you are doing something you love doing.
Would you ever do something you were against if it paid a large sum of money?
I agree with both odmaldi and C.S.Bailey (can't quote both lol). There have been several well established authors who have dropped their publishers and are now opting for self pub because it gives them more control. They already have made their mark in the literary world so readers don't...
You'd think being a nurse by day and a reader/writer/publicist by night that I'd have no interest in medical books. haha But, I gave a peek to some of the titles here and ended up enjoying them! Especially the medical thriller suggestions. I'm not into nonfiction very much but I LOVE...
Excellent post and it's kind of you to share your knowledge with others. Getting it self-published isn't the labor.. getting it noticed is a constant struggle. :-) Key thing is you have to believe in yourself before anyone else will believe in you. Best of luck to you!
Just tossing my two cents in here, but isn't it sort of irrelevant why a book is suggested? It's still been put on the table either way. I might suggest a book sometime because I've already read it and want to share it with the group. I may also suggest one that purely caught my eye and fits...
Oooh don't get me on my soapbox about the review system. lol How I wish I could say it is on the up and up, but sadly it's not. It's not just big publishers either. The corruption seems to be rampant.
I was naive enough to think it was all legitimate readers giving their honest opinions. In...
I hope this doesn't come across as spam because that's not my intention at all. I'm actually looking for some honest feedback and discussion. I make no secrets that it's my best friends book I am talking about but I need to hear what you guys think about it. He's writing on book two in the...
Learned that lesson the hard way. :) but, pro editing has been completed. I just noticed alot of blogs that seemed to bash self pubs. Considering I hope to do that someday, I was curious if that was the majority opinion.
I know it seems to matter in some respects.. and in others, ranking seems to have more influence on buyers. Lol I guess I'm just trying to figure out what the driving force is behind Amazon sales. The book can stand for itself, if it gets noticed.
When you purchase a book online, be it ebook or otherwise, do you take the time to go back and leave a review? I saw this cute pic the other day and it really made me giggle because it's true!
Reviews do matter, even the bad ones. If you have read it, take 5 mins and support the author...
I am curious to see the majority. Some ppl seem to not care who the publisher is as long as the book is good. Others lean toward a self published author and give them a chance. There are some I've seen who will go to great extremes to avoid and intentionally bash a self published author...
If you are currently writing a story and some new inspiration pops into your mind, do you get sidetracked? How do you stay focused? I have literally cd's full of partially written books. lol I will be knee deep into one and a new idea hit me.
When that happens to you, do you finish...
I am a HUGE fan of Grisham!! I always wanted to be in the legal field so almost everything he writes entices me. I love his ability to build suspense and hook the reader. I know not to even open the cover of a new JG book until I have time to read it cover to cover because I am never able to...
I reckon sayin "Hey ya'll" would probably not float past an editor. I'll pull out my good grammar and say hello ladies and gentlemen instead. :-)
I'm eager to dive into the forums as I already see a few interesting topics that I'd like to explore.
