    Emily Dickinson

This one has always been one of my favorites by Dickinson: Much madness is divinest sense To a discerning eye; Much sense the starkest madness. 'T is the majority In this, as all, prevails. Assent, and you are sane; Demur, -- you're straightway dangerous, And handled with a chain. I...

    Orson Scott Card

I like most of Card's works that I've read. I had to put down Enchantment after a while, though, it got too gory for my tastes. However, I really like the Alvin Maker series, especially the alternative history aspect of it.

    Buy books?

Fae - Sorry, it looks like they're mostly in Portland, OR. I thought they had a couple in Washington too. You can check out their site and locations at powells.com

To start things off: Favorite books

Some of my favorite kids / YA books are the Emily series, by L.M. Montgomery - probably because I really wanted to be a writer when I grew up; The Blue Castle, by Montgomery; and The Ordinary Princess, by M.M. Kaye. I also love Diana Wynne Jones' books, and Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.

Obert Skye: Leven Thumps And The Gateway To Foo

I got this book about a year ago, and I really liked it. I absolutely loved the way Skye uses words - his descriptions of everything around the characters are so interesting. And I usually hate scenery in books. Sadly, my local library doesn't have book 2 in yet, and I just bought some other...

    Diana Wynne Jones

I really like DWJ's works. I've read the Chrestomanci books, Howl, and quite a few others. One that hasn't been mentioned here yet is A Tale of Time City. It's been a while since I've read that one, but I seem to remember enjoying it a lot.

    Buy books?

To buy or to borrow... Probably 60-70% of the books I read I borrow from the library. I don't like to buy books unless it's something I think I can reread sometime in the future. A great store in the Pacific Northwest is Powell's books - booklover's heaven! They sell new and used books, and...

    Are you a re-reader?

I love books. I like to buy books and reread them. I tend to notice more details the second time through, and I love looking for little hints the authors dropped about what's coming. I sometimes feel a sense of pride in the fact that most of my books show at least a little wear and tear around...

    Wanted:New Reads Needed

Potter-esque For something a little lighter than Robert Jordan or George R. R. Martin, I like just about any book by Diana Wynne Jones. Her Chronicles of Chrestomanci books are probably the most similar to the Potter books; lots of magic and mysteries to solve. Every book I've ever read by her...

Can anyone compile a small list of classics that every reader should read?

Being a true Classics nerd... Whenever someone says Classics, I think ancient classics. I'm particularly fond of these: Homer, The Odyssey Virgil, The Aeneid Ovid, Metamorphoses Euripides, Trojan Women However, if you haven't done a lot of myth reading, you might want to have something...

    Looking for book suggestions

Gate to Women's Country I particularly like this one, by Sheri Tepper, who someone mentioned earlier. It's set in a post-apocalyptic society, good story, and great female characters.

Sheri S. Tepper: The Gate To Women's Country

It's a good read I really like the Gate to Women's Country. It's a good read, and the ending is interesting. (I hate books with weak endings.) For feminist readings, Marion Zimmer Bradley is always good; if you want something other than her Avalon books, I personally really like the omnibus...

    Hi, I'm new.And you are?

How about Weis and Hickman? They're my current favorites. Or, for real hardcore, try Tad Williams The Dragonbone Chair (bk 1 of a trilogy). It can get a little disturbing, depending on your tolerance for violence and gore. Just small bits here and there, but he does have a knack for making up...

    Hi, y'all

I'm a newbie to the site, so I thought I'd say hello. I love reading, of course. I like sci-fi and fantasy, classics, retellings of myths and legends, and a good funny short story. I have a toddler and another one on the way, so I like good kids books too. I like to reread my favorite books...
