I was once asked by a group of foreigners to tell them all the swear words I knew and to demonstrate correct usage by using them in context. A memorable day.
This is true for me as well. I have to read in quiet, but I can write in any environment. I don't do better at any particular time of day (or night) either. It all depends on my state of mind, and the right state of mind can occur at any moment. I have been known to scrawl on napkins.
This is my most favorite passage from a book. I am a romantic, but this scene is so beautifully written you don't need to be one to appreciate it.

I've started Mrs. Dalloway. I already love it, and I've only read 15 pages. The inner workings of a woman's thoughts. I just may sleep with this book under my pillow.
