I do have scientific experience but my area of "expertise" lies in the analysis of chromosomes not yawning!
I promise when a chromosome thread comes up that I will try to offer some insight into that field!
I really enjoyed The God Of Small Things and would suggest that you do persevere however if you've tried three times unsuccessfully, maybe it's just not for you!
Amsterdam and Atonement are the only Ian McEwan books that I have read. I thought that they both were cleverly written. "Amsterdam"...

The premise is fairly simple: at a barbecue attended by a group of family and friends, an...
Sadly Aqua I tend to borrow books from my library. However I prefer the trade editions too when I buy a book.

Hi littlel,
Welcome to BAR! Stephen King was the first "adult" author that grabbed my attention. I remember being 16 and lending the head librarian my copy of "Misery" so that she would buy some of his novels for the library - and it worked!
I just mentioned Dean Koontz in another thread...
Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but try Watchers by Dean Koontz.
Here is its Wiki page so you can get a rough idea of the plot...

The Autobiography of Malcolm X - Alex Haley
I found this to be an excellent book. I read it in the early 1990's when Public Enemy were especially popular and their politically charged lyrics actually made me want to learn more about the people they were referring to.
We have "Fastback" loans which can only be loaned for 7 days but otherwise you get a book for 3 weeks with a possible 3 week renewal if the book doesn't have any holds.
Hey Aqua, hope that you are feeling better now.
Have had any blood tests done just to be on the safe side?
I work in pathology so that is probably influencing my post!
Welcome Justin!
A recent fictional novel that I highly recommend is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It is set in Germany before and during World War II and the story is told from the point of view of Death.
Hope this one interests you.
