Just curious, what do you mean by 'his books have a lot of parts'? I haven't read Clancy.
With the exception of Sherlock Holmes, I don't usually read detective stories, so don't have a lot to recommend. But you might enjoy some John Grisham? I liked 'The Firm' (his first novel), among...
About 'The Shack'...honestly, in my opinion it was not well-written, and I have hard time getting past that. I think that Christian fiction should be held to the same standard as regular fiction, and I feel that a good book should grab you on the first page and hold your interest throughout...
Thank you all for the welcome! :) I'm looking forward to getting to know you - I love reading and talking about books. Do you guys have any recommendations?
Justin, my fellow Ohioan, do you ever read 'local' authors?
Libri Vermis, I love your avatar!
dude, I loved Water for Elephants.
Recently borrowed from the library:
The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perotta (I didn't care for it)
Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult
(I've been re-reading Picoult's novels, because they inspire me to good writing. :) )
Hi Esseti, I think you will like '1984' - it's one of my favorite novels.
I always recommend almost anything by Jodi Picoult - she is a fabulous writer, and her stories are very realistic and well crafted. I've read all of her novels, and from your description, I would recommend 'Nineteen...
Justin, I relate - I'm happy for my friend, too, because she really wants to live in Seattle, and I'm hoping she'll be so happy there. But I'm also going to miss her a lot.
How's your mom holding up so far?
I'm seven years old, I've been in an accident at the circus, my parents are separated, and as I'm lying in bed listening to my mother crying in her room a person in a long white nightgown appears and talks to me.
Justin, it must be! And what is wrong with Ohio, anyway? I like it here. ;)
My best friend is moving to Seattle. Sorry to hear about your brother, San Diego is far as well, and it's always tough when someone we're close to moves away.
Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies! :)
Wikipedia defines Christian fiction as: "any novel that expounds and illustrates a Christian world view in its plot, its characters, or both, or which deals with Christian themes in a positive way."
Some mainstream novels fit that definition, and...
I've had friendship stress lately. A long-distance friend recently stopped responding to me for no apparent reason. Nothing happened, we didn't argue, this person suddenly just dropped out of my life with no explanation. And then my best friend is moving across the country this week, and it's...
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, and as I write contemporary Christian fiction, I would love to connect with any other Christian readers or writers. :)
Jodi Picoult is my favorite, because writes so well. Some best-selling authors, although they are obviously doing something right, do not have such a wonderful mastery of the craft.
Justin, Stephen King is an excellent writer as well...there's nothing non-intellectual about reading his work. ;)
