Here are some excellent classics that I have read recently:
Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Fire Bringer sounds very interesting. I will look into it.
Thank you.
Actually, I am sorry to say after looking at the synopsis of this book, I won't be picking it up, because it sounds suspiciously too much like Watership Down.
Thank you for the response.
Charles De Lint is a good recommendation, but I have already read him. I enjoy his older books, but I am not so fond of the newer ones.

I will have to re-watch the entire series...
I had to really think about this one, because I couldn't think of too many contemporary American authors that write short stories.
But I came up with two authors that I think would fit your criteria:
Novelties and Souvenirs: Collected Short Stories by John Crowley
A Dove of the East and Other...
I would love to hear about what you appreciated in this book. I am always open to hearing others viewpoints, as there could be something I missed or overlooked.
I think so. In more ways than one.
Another thing that sticks with me. How does one get off the island? With a wheel and fire. Hmmmm, more symbolism and metaphor.
